Press Release April 6 2012
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE For more information, contact: RKR-CB (505) 250-3105 [email protected] NEW CD “SHOTGUN” BOB ANDREWS AND SPECIAL GUESTS April 6, 2012 (New Orleans, Louisiana)--Released just in time for the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, the CD “SHOTGUN” is brand new music featuring Bob Andrews playing with some of the best musicians in New Orleans. SHOTGUN was inspired by a book by RKR- CB (also called SHOTGUN to be released April 20, 2012) which is a curious mix of images of the Marigny and Bywater neighborhoods juxtaposed with edgy graphic art and an eclectic short story. Known throughout New Orleans and the world as a keyboard player, Bob Andrews instead plays guitar on all tracks of SHOTGUN for a new sound that reflects a merging of Bob’s British rock and R&B roots with New Orleans funk and blues. The songs are fresh, edgy, and innovative. The music and the intriguing lyrics capture the energy of New Orleans with sultry and vivid flavors of lust and love in a rollicking zest for life. SHOTGUN brings together diverse and talented musicians including Alex McMurray, Johnny Sansone, Cornell Williams, Jermal Watson, Calvin Johnson, and Red Priest. SHOTGUN was recorded at Piety Street Recording by Wes Fontenot and mixed by John Porter. Development of the SHOTGUN CD was partially supported through a grant from the Threadhead Cultural Foundation. SHOTGUN is the first in a series of collaborative projects by RKR-CB to promote New Orleans musicians in tandem with a companion book. The next RKR- CB book/CD project, “INVISIBLE LOVE” will be released later in 2012. -

Download the Tenor Saxophone of Buddy Tate
1 The TENORSAX of GEORGE HOLMES TATE “BUDDY” Solographer: Jan Evensmo Last update: Jan. 4, 2020 2 Born: Sherman, Texas, Feb. 22, 1914 Died: Chandler, Arizona, Feb. 10, 2001 Introduction: We became familiar with Buddy Tate very early through his recordings with Count Basie. I met him once, many years ago, at the Molde International Jazz Festival. He was a very kind man, and when he realized I was doing some useful work on ja zz tenor saxophone, he invited me to his hotel room for whisky. We had a very nice time together in the light summer night of Norway! Early history: His brother, a saxophonist, gave Buddy an alto in 1925. Two years later began gigging with McCloud's Night Owls (led by his cousin, trumpeter Roy McCloud). In 1929 played for several months in Wichita Falls with the St. Louis Merrymakers, later that year joined Troy Floyd's Band in San Antonio. Briefly with Gene Coy's Band, then with Terrence Holder's 12 Clouds of Joy from 1930-33. Worked with E. J. Malone and his Rhythm Kings (early 1933), Wesley Smiths' Band, ‘Tan Town Topics’, and Ethel May's Band before joining Count Basie in Little Rock, Arkansas (ca. July 1934). From late 1934 until early summer 1935 with Andy Kirk, played with band at Wiley College, Texas, then long spell with Nat Towles until joining Count Basie in spring 1939. Remained with Basie until September 1948, brief return in early 1949, then for the rest of that year worked mostly with Hot Lips Page, occasionally with Lucky Millinder. -

Marianne Faithfull
