Help for PC users to reduce the size of photographs (HELP FOR MAC USERS IS SHOWN BELOW) Microsoft includes a program with MS Office called "Microsoft Office Picture Manager" starting with version 2003. It is a basic image editing and image management program. It replaced MS Photo Editor, which had been included up to Office XP and Office 97. Either program will work with the instructions but the screen shots below are for Microsoft Office Picture Manager. 1) Select the photo in the folder with a left mouse click. Once the image icon is highlighted, click the right mouse button while over the file icon and a menu will open as shown below. Select "Open With" choosing an application called Microsoft Office Picture Manager or Microsoft Office 2010 or Microsoft Photo Manager or Microsoft Photo Editor (the program name will depend on the version of Microsoft Office that you have on your computer). 2) Once opened in Microsoft Office Picture Manager (or similar program), from the menu options across the top click on the tab “Picture” and a drop down menu will appear as below. Left mouse click on the menu option “Resize” as below 3) A set of options to resize the picture will open in a window to the right of the picture (as below). Click on the drop- down menu called the “Pre-defined width x height” and a series of options will appear on the drop down menu as in the screen-shot below. Choose the "Web-Large (640 x 480px)" option. Then click the "OK" button below that (the OK button will only be enabled when you select an option and a dot will appear beside the “Pre-defined width x height” heading). 4) You do not want to overwrite the original file so give this file a new name. From the tool bar at the top of the page click ”File”. a drop down menu will appear as shown below, select "Save As" and rename this smaller file so it does not replace the original. 5) You can check the size of the smaller file by a right mouse click on the file icon as in screen shots below - the file should be smaller than 250 Kilobytes Help for Mac users to reduce the size of photographs 1) From your desktop or other folder open the image file by double clicking on the file icon or right mouse -hold down on the icon and open the file with "Preview.app" 2) Once opened in Preview do a "Save As" under the "File" drop down menu and move the Quality slider left until File Size is between 200 KB & 250 KB - click the save button 3) To check the file size you can "Get Info" form the Finder - File drop down menu and see an info box like the image below. .
