Keogh went on to say that the WinStar horses have helped their own cause in recent months. ASince the catalogue, there have been 12 individual winners and two stakes horses [from the consignment],@ said Keogh. APlus, horses we=ve sold here in the past have gone on and done very well--horses like Will He Shine and Spring at Last. I was talking to Dale Romans today, and he said that this was just the perfect place to buy a horse. You can literally buy one, enter him, put your silks on him and be standing in a winner=s circle in 10 days.@ For the first time, WinStar held its own breeze show for its horses in training at its Lexington farm Nov. 2, and Keogh said the response was positive. AI think there were probably 25 or 30 people there,@ he said. APlus we=ve posted videos from the show on our website (www.winstarfarm.com), and we=ve gotten over 2,000 individual hits.@ Like WinStar, Shadwell is consigning its own horses. The operation=s Kent Barnes, stallion manager of Shadwell=s Lexington farm, was on hand yesterday to help oversee the consignment, and explained the draft filled two purposes: to reduce numbers, and to put horses into the right hands and into the spots where they=ll be competitive. "We obviously try to race at the top level--if you look at the sales prices on these things, you'll see horses that we bought for $400,000 or $500,000, and from the very best sire lines,@ he explained. AWe race at Gulfstream in the winter and at Belmont and sometimes Arlington in the summer, and some of these horses aren't quite getting it done--they're running fourth or fifth. But we've sold a number of horses here who have dropped down a notch or two and done very well.@

Caulfield cont. Woodland Dream=s dam Fantasy Girl visited Roberto=s son Bob Back with success. Their son Big Bad Bob developed into a very useful juvenile in 2002, winning the last four of his six starts, and he also thrived at three, when he won a Listed race in France and a Group 3 in Germany over a mile and a quarter. Al- though Big Bad Bob seemed to have the odds stacked against him at the start of his stallion career (his sire Bob Back was best known as a sire of jumpers), he has made an eye-catching start, mainly with progeny carry- ing the colours of Anamoine Ltd. He had done so well that he has now joined the stallion team at the Irish National Stud. Snow Fairy=s achievements must be all the more satisfying for her owner, who also races under the name of Windflower Overseas Holdings, because she has owned several generations of the family. Snow Fairy=s fourth dam, Gay Fantasy, first made her mark through her much-travelled son Lucky Guest, who won stakes races in Germany and Turkey for Ed Dunlop=s father John. Gay Fantasy=s Sadler=s Wells filly Cara Fantasy has also been doing sterling work, producing the Group 3 winner Palavicini to Giant=s Causeway and the 2010 2000 Guineas fifth Elusive Pimpernel to Elu- sive Quality. As a daughter of the Derby winner Troy, Gay Fantasy was a sister to Sheer Audacity, an outstanding broodmare who numbered the 1999 Derby winner Oath and the Prix Ganay winner Pelder among her stakes winners. Gay Fantasy was also a half-sister to the G2 Ribblesdale S. winner Miss Petard, who numbers the G1 Prix de l=Abbaye de Longchamp winners Avonbridge and Patavellian among her descendants. I=m sure you=ll agree, this is hardly the pedigree of a horse worth less than i2,000 as a yearling.

Heard About The Daily Deal? Ready for more details? Here’s how it works...

Based on the popular Groupon model (www.groupon.com), the TDN will email its audience of 7,800 daily subscribers one coupon from a farm each day, allowing them to:

# Get a discount to farms on stallion fees; i.e., $60,000 in fees for $40,000. # Breed to a particular stallion at a significant discount. # Breed to two `linked’ at a discount; i.e., one very popular and one who might need a boost.

Users have that day and that day only to accept the offer and must pay that day.

Seasons will be live-foal guaranteed, but payable on the day of purchase, not when the foal stands and nurses. This allows the farm to generate valuable working capital through the leveraging of their assets, and the buyer to get a great deal.

In effect, the buyer is simply getting a significant discount for up-front payment. The stallion’s fee is not reduced for anyone paying on the normal s/n terms. Each deal is good that day only.

Each day’s featured farm has the discretion to choose what the discount is, and each offer may be tailored to suit the farm’s needs. The farm may limit the number of seasons available, or specify that a certain number of seasons have to be sold in order to make the deal `go.’

For questions, or to sign up to offer a deal for your farm, call Sue Finley at 732-747-8060 ([email protected]) or Gary King at (732) 320-7964 ([email protected]) P TDN AROUND THE WORLD • 11/16/10 • PAGE 3 of 5 • thoroughbreddailynews.com
