MOLLYMOOK PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE VETERANS Welcome to the Veterans April Newsletter. NEWSLETTER Firstly, I would like to talk about our playing numbers on our Wednesday Veterans days. April 2021 We have 2 hours hit off times at Hilltop off the 1st and 10th tees each week, and this allows for 128 hit off spots. The 1 round will be Stroke only, while the 2nd round will have an alternative Stableford for those not wishing to continue in the Championship. The dates are subject to weather conditions, and may change if necessary.

The following week 21st April is Legacy Day at Hilltop.

On this day the Golf Club are donating the match fees for that day and the Veterans are 12th Hole Mollymook Golf Club also donating the value of the Vouchers and balls supplied by the Club on that day to Legacy. The event for the day is a 4BBB and Legacy HERE I LIE are supplying prizes for the first 6 placegetters together with Balls for N.T.P. by SANDY MacDIVOT prizes on each par3 based on the same format as usual, there will not be a ball rundown.

Legacy will be running some raffles which we ask that you support, winners do not have to be present to collect any prizes, Legacy will have your contact number.

By the time I’d finished my first year of teaching, I had completed Chem I; Physics I; Pure Maths I; Zoology I and Geology I at uni. Qld schools needed more science and maths teachers so I agreed to transfer to Secondary School. I taught for 3 years at Toowong HS but resigned when I won the prestigious Evening and External Students Scholarship at UQ. The scholarship gave me a very generous living allowance while I completed my BSc Hons in Geology full-time and the scholarship stipend enabled me to buy an Alfa Romeo.

I was forced to give it up Captain’s Corner when my lower back problem was aggravated by my golf swing. After a 14 year lay-off I resumed playing golf (with half a swing) at Yowani off 26 and by the time I retired I had reduced my handicap to 14.

When we moved to Mollymook, the Hilltop course was the cause of my handicap climbing back up to 20. In recent years, I have struggled to play off my 32 handicap at Hilltop and 24 at Beachside but I still really enjoy the challenge and the friendship of other Veteran golfers.

On Tuesday the 18th May, 2021, a trip is being planned to travel to Narooma Golf club for our Mollymook Vets. Numbers and mode of transport to be advised as the date gets closer.

On Monday the 24th May, 2021, a visit from Moruya is being planned. It is anticipated that it will be a mixed Ambrose competition with a similar two tee start at 8.30am.
