• Achievements • Event Summary • Media coverage • Social media SUMMARY OF ACHEIVEMENTS The CoBA Secretariat worked closely with various partners to ensure the success of the World Blood Donor Day activities. Below are a summary of success indicators following different advocacy activities undertaken during that period’; a) We received a total of 27 pieces of coverage across the African continent in: Algeria, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda and on Pan-African news websites following the distribution of the Give Blood press announcement and op-ed dissemination . Advertising Equivalent Value: $23 869.22 . b) A new partnership was forged with Facebook to support in the amplification of the Give Blood Song by leveraging on Facebook Ads credits across 7 African Countries. The campaign is currently running for the next 3 weeks. The campaign is set to reach approximately 2 million users per Country. Facebook's platforms are used by hundreds of millions of Africans and offer a unique advocacy platform. c) CoBA played a role in the success of the he Kenya National services collecting 13, 778 units of blood across the country following. d) Social media outreach on twitter led to and increase I page visit and number of followers e) The different advocacy efforts resulted to the Coalitions recognition by the World Health Organization for effort in addressing the challenges of blood in the continent. https://www.afro.who.int/news/blood- donation-rate-falls-africa-wake-covid-19-pandemic ‘Give Blood, Give Love’ Lyrics GIVE BLOOD SONG Oh-oh Oh-oh Oh-oh (Give blood) Not much of it is just enough (Give blood) Helping others out when times are To celebrate World Blood Donor Day on 14 June, Global rough Blood Fund (GBF) partnered with the Africa Society for (Give blood) Saving lives is such a great reward Blood Transfusion (AfSBT), and the Coalition of Blood for (Give blood) Give it once and you will want to give more Africa (CoBA) to release multiple interpretations of Pete Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, ah Townshend’s song ‘Give Blood’, performed by leading Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, ah African artists. Give blood, for you sisters and brothers Give love, and give blood for each other Musician Pete Townshend gave permission for his classic Give blood, for your sisters and brothers song ‘Give Blood’ (hear on Spotify and YouTube) to be used Give love, and give blood for each other for the first time to promote on 14 June. (Give blood) It will add to your dignity (Give blood) It will help with equality The videos were shared on social media and through other (Give blood) Those in need will be in your debt (Give blood) And their loved ones will not forget channels, and are donated free-of-charge to blood services across Africa (and Latin America and the Middle East) for Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, ah use on and around World Blood Donor Day. • Below is a summary of activities undertaken by the CoBA Secretariat for World Blood Donor Day; Pete Townshend – Give Blood Song announcement on 9th June • Press release editing for the ‘Give Blood’ announcement. • Engagement and management of the Africa Media Agency to do translation and distribution of the press release across Africa. • Developed a social media content plan to guide posts for the ‘Give blood’ announcement. The content plan was distributed amongst CoBA partners to support in dissemination. • Engaged Facebook as a partner to support in the amplification of the Give Blood Song by leveraging on Facebook Ads credits across 7 African Countries that they are supporting. The campaign is currently running for the next 3 weeks. The campaign is set to reach approximately 2 million users per Country. • Engaged the Africa Society for Blood Transfusion for support in distribution of the Give Blood Song across blood Services in Africa ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN BY COBA

Support for Kenya National Blood Transfusion Service • CoBA offered support to the Kenya National Blood Transfusion Services (KNBTS) during the World Blood Donor Day event held in Nairobi and across the 33 KNBTS sites. • The main launch event took place at the Uhuru Park Grounds presided over by the Principal Secretary at the Ministry of Health, Ms. Susan Mochache. • CoBA donated; 340 face masks and 750 squeezy balls as donor incentives to support the blood drive across the country which was being held from June 14th. Bungoma County World Blood Donor Day Event • CoBA supported Bungoma County with social media for the launch of the Bungoma County Give Blood Song. The launch was presided over by the First Lady of Bungoma H. E. Caroline Wangamati working closely with the Bungoma County Ministry of Health. • Earlier in the year Global Blood Fund and CoBA partnered with Bungoma Country through the First Lady to develop a localized Give Blood Song. The Song will be used as an advocacy tool to encourage people in the country to develop a culture of giving blood. The song was done by youth volunteers in the country in Both English and vernacular • Links to the song and video ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN BY COBA

Placement of Opinion Editorial • The CoBA Secretariat developed and placed an opinion editorial aligned to the WBDD theme which was focusing on the youth. The Op-ed was penned by the Coalition Communication Lead. The article received 10 pieces of coverage across leading publications in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

• In Kenya the Standard newspaper gave it a full page spread, in Tanzania, The guardian put a front page mention of the op-ed. The IPP press picked the op-ed and placed it in their online platforms MEDIA COVERAGE MEDIA COVERAGE Coverage Received
