Cabinet Changes - Barnaby Joyce MP is the new Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development. Michael McCormack MP has been removed from the Cabinet and is now on the backbench. - David Littleproud MP retains his position as the Minster for Agriculture and is now also the Minister for Northern Australia. The role of Minister for Drought and Emergency Management will be given to Senator Bridget McKenzie. - Senator McKenzie will be returned to the Cabinet and is also the new Minister for Regionalisation, Regional Communications and Regional Education. - Keith Pitt MP, the Minister for Resources and Water will move to the outer Ministry, with his Northern Australia portfolio goes to David Littleproud MP. - Andrew Gee MP has been promoted to the Cabinet as the Minister for Defence Industry and Minister for Veterans’ Affairs. - Darren Chester MP, the former Minister for Veterans Affairs and Defence Personnel has been removed from the Cabinet and the Ministry. This is most needed when it relates to the private (often private, foreign tax haven based entities with zero transparency or accountability), use of public assets. IEEFA works in the public interest analysis relating to the energy-fmance-climate space, and so we regularly see the impact of the fossil fuel sector in particular as one that thrives on the ability to privatise the gains for utilising one-time use public assets and in doing so, externalising the costs onto the NSW community. This process is constantly repeated. The community costs, be they in relation to air, particulate and carbon pollution, plus the use of public water, and failure to rehabilitate sites post mining, brings a lasting community cost, particularly in the area of public health costs. The cost-benefit analysis presented to the IPC is prepared by the proponent, who has an ability to present biased self-serving analysis that understates the costs and overstates the benefits. To my understanding, the revolving door of regulators, politicians, fossil fuel companies and their lobbyists is corrosive to our democracy, undermining integrity and fairness. -

THE HON JOSH FRYDENBERG MP Treasurer THE HON DAVID LITTLEPROUD MP Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources JOINT MEDIA RELEASE 25 October 2018 INAUGURAL DROUGHT FINANCE TASKFORCE MEETING The Liberal-National Government, the National Farmers Federation and banks will meet in Canberra today, marking the first meeting of the Drought Finance Taskforce designed to further support drought-affected farmers and small businesses. The taskforce will consider and respond to drought-related finance issues impacting both farmers and small businesses in rural and regional communities. Each rural and regional community is a mini economy and drought can have a big impact on cash flow within these mini economies. If farmers face financial challenges, their families are less likely to be spending money in town. Without money coming in, local small businesses may be faced with their own tough decisions, such as letting employees go. The cyclical effect is felt by communities as a whole. Through the sharing of data and other information, the taskforce will seek to better understand the finance related challenges that have or may in the future impact drought-affected communities. The taskforce’s focus will be on helping alleviate these finance challenges for both farmers and small businesses and keeping these mini economies going. The taskforce will seek to build upon the previously announced measures by the banks, including pausing repayments, waiving fees, reducing interest rates, restructuring loans, as well as prior government actions. We believe all Australians should have access to safe, secure and affordable accommodation. In this election we are seeking a commitment from each of the major parties to halving homelessness by 2025. Over 100,000 Australians are homeless – including more than 44,000 children and young people. As homelessness services providers, we confront the reality behind the statistics. Each day, we hear from thousands of individuals and families seeking our help. While each story is unique, there are recurring themes and challenges among those seeking support. Each day, we see young people fleeing unbearable family situations who have nowhere safe to sleep. Around one in three people seeking our services’ help are women and children escaping domestic and family violence, yet all too often they cannot find the crisis accommodation and support that is vital if they are to rebuild their lives. A growing number of older women are living in precarious situations, in fear of rising rents and landlords ending their lease. Without affordable and appropriate alternatives, many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families are forced to live in overcrowded households in substandard dwellings. People with disabilities face increasing difficulties achieving sustainable housing due to limited accommodation which meets their specific needs. -

NATIONAL PALLIATIVE CARE WEEK Statement by Parliamentary Secretary HON ALANNA CLOHESY (East Metropolitan — Parliamentary Secretary) [10.02 am]: National Palliative Care Week is an annual awareness-raising week organised by Palliative Care Australia and Palliative Care WA. The theme for National Palliative Care Week 2019 is “What matters most?”, and it will be held from 19 to 25 May. National Palliative Care Week is a national week to raise awareness and understanding about palliative care in the Australian community. The theme addresses the need for Australians to plan ahead for their end-of-life care and discuss it with their loved ones and health professionals. Palliative Care Australia will highlight how palliative care can help people with a life-limiting illness to have a high quality of life, right to the end. The McGowan government has made a strong commitment to palliative care in Western Australia, with a $41 million investment for extra support and enhanced specialist and community-based care across the state, initially with a particular focus on rural and regional palliative care services. This package brings the total investment by the state government for palliative care services over the next four years to $206.2 million. -
