Moroccan-born American fashion designer, Paul Marciano is one of the leading heads behind the fashion company GUESS. Through his hard work and dedication to fashion, Marciano along with his brothers have taken the original GUESS, a denim company, and has transformed it into todays largest and most popular designer brand of clothing. Paul Marciano is also the owner of GUESS’ clothing line extensions, G by GUESS and GUESS by Mariano.

Born in 1952 in Debdou, to a Jewish family, Paul Marciano and his three brothers, Georges, Armand and Maurice were raised in , . After being mobilized to a wheelchair for over a year, Paul Marciano was put too far behind in his education to return to school after his initial car accident. Meanwhile, he along with his brothers worked for their family clothing store, MGA, which was located in the French Riviera. In 1981, due to the change of Frances politics the family closed down their shop and moved to the .

The Marciano’s together created the first line of GUESS in 1981. With their knowledge of fashion, they created a brand that fused together both European and Western styles of clothing. Today, only two of the Marciano brothers, Paul and Maurice, run the entire company of GUESS. Through GUESS, Paul Marciano developed and launched both GUESS by Marciano, a women’s fashion line, and G by GUESS, which was targeted towards a younger audience than the dominant GUESS brand.

Paul Marciano along with being a designer of the brand, is also the main advertiser and mastermind behind all GUESS campaigns. His vision for the company to produce upscale, fashionable clothing became an icon for young, sexy and adventurous lifestyle. He is also the developer of GUESS’ black-and-white campaigns that was the first to feature iconic supermodels Anna Nicole Smith, Claudia Schiffer and Drew Barrymore before their fame.

Due to Paul Marciano’s vision, GUESS in the 21st century is the first to feature an Asian Indian model for their holiday line of clothing in 2013, which received nation attention as it changed the image of what a GUESS Girl is and what she looks like.
