Gerald R. Ford Congressional Papers: Audiotapes, 1952-1973

Series Descriptions

Audiotapes (60 hours) The Congressional Audio Tape Collection consists of tapes produced by Ford's office, government agencies, local media and private citizens. The tapes cover public appearances by Ford, including speeches, television and radio interviews, press conferences and campaign commercials. The collection, however, is not complete as many more speeches are covered in the Congressional Speech Files in the manuscript collection. The tapes, which are either reel-to-reel or cassette, are arranged chronologically.

Phonograph Records (56) The Congressional Phonograph Records consist of fifty-six 78 rpm, 45rpm, and 33 1/3rpm records. The records were produced by various networks, the Republican Congressional Campaign Committee, and recording artists such as Lionel Hampton. Included are appearances by Ford on the CBS News programs "The Leading Question" and "Capitol Cloakroom," and NBC's "Meet the Press." Some of these programs include typewritten scripts. Also included are House of Representatives produced "Reports from Congress," and other recordings featuring Ford. Dwight Eisenhower's campaign song "Look Ahead Neighbor"(1952), is included, as are "We Need Nixon"(1968) and "Nixon's the One"(1968). In addition, the collection consists of a set of Republican Congressional Campaign Committee produced 35mm film strips with accompanying records. All of the film strips were produced between 1952 and 1955. Among the titles are "America's Creeping Socialism" (1952), "Korea-The Price of Appeasement"(1952), "Our New Atomic Defense" (1954), and "The Red Web"(1954). Some of the programs come with scripts. The records are arranged chronologically, with a separate box for the film strips. Related material can be found in the Congressional photograph collection, late accessions, in Box 32.
