Organizer of Seminars/Conferences –National & International

1. National seminar on "Schopenhauer and Indian philosophy" on behalf of the IDSS in collaboration with the department of philosophy, Deshbandhu college, Max Mueller Bhawan, Indian Council of Philosophical Research and Center for Studies in Civilizations on 23rd January 2003 in India International center with the sponsorship from the UGC.

2. National seminar on "Comparative Philosophy and Ethics: Samsara, Karma, and World, Self, Ethics" in collaboration with DIVA- INDIA which was held on 3rd and 4th May 2003 in India International Center, New Delhi: one full session was devoted to Schopenhauer’s philosophy.

3. International Seminar on "Metaphysics in the 21st Century: With Special reference to Michael Krausz” organized by the Philosophy Department, Delhi University, which was held at Delhi University in January 2001(I was in the organizing committee).

4. Seminar on "The history of Indo-German cultural " at the Philosophy Department of Guwahati University which was held on 23rd April, 2003 where Deputy Minister of the FRG Embassy , New Delhi delivered a lecture.

5. On behalf of the philosophy department I organized a seminar on “George Grant and M K Gandhi” in a joint effort with the political department of Deshbandhu College, DU on 23rd September 2003 in the college premise.

6. On behalf of the Indian division of the Schopenhauer society and the department of philosophy, Deshbandhu College, I organized a three day International seminar on “Schopenhauer and Indian Philosophy: A Dialogue between India and Germany” in Collaboration with the Center for Studies in Civilizations and German Embassy, sponsored by Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR) and CSC which was held in February (22-24) 2005 in IIC, Delhi. It was also bilaterally organized by IDSS, India and Schopenahuer Research center, University of Mainz, Germany.

7. On behalf of the department of philosophy, Deshbandhu College, I organized a one day seminar on “George Grant and M K Gandhi’s nationalisms” in Collaboration with the Center for Canadian, US and American studies, JNU and IACS which was held on 15th Feb 2006 at JNU.

8. On behalf of the Indian Schopenhauer society I myself along with Prof Yasuo Kamata for the Japan Schopenhauer society -jointly organized a one day meeting of the International Schopenhauer society during the world congress for the Schopenhauer Gesellschaft Germany in the XXII nd World Congress of Philosophy (during 30th July- 5th August 2008) in the Seoul National University, Korea. This meeting included a poster session, a Round table and a paper www.du.ac.in Page 5 presentation session.

9. On behalf of the Indian division of the Schopenhauer society and the department of philosophy, Deshbandhu College, I organized a two day International conference on “Understanding Schopenhauer through the Prism of Indian Culture: Philosophy, Religion and ” in Collaboration with the Special Center for , JNU sponsored by Schopenhauer Gesellschaft, JNU, MMB and Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR) which was held in March (4-5) 2010 at JNU, New Delhi. It was also bilaterally organized by IDSS, India and Schopenhauer Research center, University of Mainz, Germany.

10. The Assam Chapter of Indian division of Schopenhauer Society (IDSS) organized a Round table at Gauhati University during ( 26-29 October 2010) on the occasion of 85th session of IPC in collaboration with IDSS.

11. On behalf of the philosophy department, I organized a seminar talk on “Tat Tvam Asi and Compassion: Schopenhauerian Ethics in the perspective of comparative Religion’ by Prof. Yasuo Kamata, Japan (Kyoto Univ) in a joint effort with the IDSS on 18th September 2012 in the college premise.

12. There was also a book release function organized by me on behalf of the Philosophy deptt. And the program director of Max Mueller Bhawan formally released the book “ West meets East : Schopenhauer and India “ Edited by me.( 18th Sep 2012 at Deshbandhu college,).

13. On 18th January 2013 another book release function was organized by me at JNU . Honorable Minister of DoNER Shri Pawan Singh Ghatowar formally released the book “ “Understanding Schopenhauer through the prism of Indian Culture, Philosophy, Religion and Sanskrit Literature” edited by me with two co-editors Prof. M Kossler & M Gerhard, published from De Gruyter, Germany , 2013. Dr Ramnath Jha presented his paper and two discussants on the paper discussed it.

Award of Scholarship in India and Abroad:

a) Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG= German Research Foundation) I was awarded a research fellowship for 3 months to pursue my post –doctoral research on “Sankara and Schopenhauer: A comparative study” in the Schopenhauer Research Center, University of Mainz, Germany which commenced from June 2006 to 10th October 2006. Prof Matthias Kossler, Director of the Schopenhauer Research Center, University of Mainz, was my academic supervisor for the project. b) Faculty Research Fellowship by the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI) to visit Canada for 5 weeks from18th May to 22nd June 2003. I visited the University of St. ’s, Halifax for the summer institute’s course of SICI on Canadian Studies from 20th to 23rd May and then from 23rd May to 22nd June I visited the University of Guelph, Ontario. I had worked with Prof. William Christian on my project "George Grant and M. K. Gandhi on technology and modernism: a comparative study". c) Government of India's National Scholarship for Study Abroad in 1981-82. I got admission in Edmonton University, Alberta, Canada but could not avail of it as I had to go to Warwick University, UK. d) Racham visiting scholar at University of Michigan, USA, during 1995-96. e) UGC Research Associate at JNU (1989-1992) f) ICPR general fellow at JNU (1988-1989) g) UGC JRF at BHU (1978-1982).
