Get started scanning a signal with ETM770

1. Insert sim card as shown in picture above. 2. Insert the charger into the mini USB connector. Battery is charged with 5V. When charger is successfully connected the screen shall look as follows:

3. Put on chosen antenna. 4. When menu is shown, press “Scan Signal” to scan. For additional settings please see chapter Additional Settings. 5. Validate your result. Picture below shows a typical scan.

I. Shows that the battery is charging, signal strength is 15, network and frequency 2100MHz. R means that the device is logged into home network and the sign left of the R shows that it is connected. II. Scanned network. III. Signal strength in dBm and in parenthesis the corresponding value, which is a value between 1 and 31. IV. Signal Strength Bar. V. Minimum and maximum signal strength value during scan. VI. LAC: The Local Area Network Code, CELL: cell identification number.

6. Press any button to abort scanning process and return to main menu. 7. To turn of the device, select Services and press OK. 8. Select Shutdown device and press OK.

Additional Settings

With ETM770 it is possible to make several additional settings.

Set up an ISP connection to PING a server:

1. To make the configurations needed a terminal program or a SMS is used. 2. Send following command: ET-IAPNx=+cgdcont=1, “ip”,”APN” where x is your own chosen number and APN is your chosen APN. 3. To set the IP address send: ET-IP1=”Remote Server IP-Address”:”Remote Port” . 4. Go to Main menu in your ETM770. 5. Select “ISP connect” and press OK. 6. Select “Set APN” and press OK. Here you can see your configured APNs. 7. Select which APN(if you have configured more than one) you want to use and press OK. 8. Return to previous menu. 9. Select “Open ISP Connection” and press OK. 10. When “connected” is shown on the display, return to previous menu. Following figure can also be seen in the display window: ISP connected

11. Select which IP-address you want to confirm connection with and press OK. 12. If your installation is sufficient you shall get a “Ping reply OK” back.

Select which operator to scan amongst available operators:

1. Return to main menu. 2. Select “Net Operators” and press OK. 3. A list of operators is shown. To see which operators are available please see the numbers on the right of the display.

View network status:

1. Return to main menu. 2. Select Status and press OK. 3. Select Network and press OK. 4. The first view will look similar to the following:

5. If you press the down arrow once you will get a picture that looks similar to the one below:

6. If you press the down arrow once again you will get the following:

7. Press the down button again and you will have gotten all the network information available: 15 3 G : 2100 APN: " isplnk. swip.net" LIP: 0.0.0.0

8. Table below shows a brief explanation of the network abbreviations.

Abbreviation Full name Further Explanations CHANN CHANNEL Shows the ARFCN(Absolute Frequency Channel Number) of the Radio Band Frequency. PSC Primary Synchronization Describes start and stop time for the time slot that the Code device has been allocated. MCC Mobile Country Code The first part of the PLMN code. MNC Mobile Network Code The second part of the PLMN code. EC/n0 Carrier to Noise Ratio LAC Local Area Code CELL CELL ID Cell identification number APN Access Point Name This will only be useful information if you have set up an ISP connection. LIP Local IP This will only be useful information if you have set up an ISP connection. RSCP Received Signal Code Measured in dBm Power SQ Signal Quality Quality value for base station selection in dBm SRxL RX level value for base station selection indBm

Scan a specific Radio Band Region (This feature is only available on ETM770-1):

1. Return to main menu. 2. Select Services and press OK. 3. Select Radio Band Region and press OK. 4. Select the radio band you want to scan and press OK.

Scan for a specific Radio Band (this feature is only available on the 3G versions, ETM770-2 and ETM770-3):

1. Return to main menu. 2. Select Services and press OK. 3. Select Radio Band and press OK. 4. Select the radio band you want to scan.

View IP setting:

1. Return to main menu. 2. Select status and press OK. 3. Select Settings and press OK. 4. If you have set an ISP connection up (described in chapter “Set up an ISP connection to PING a server”) the display shall look something similar to the picture below.

RIP1: Remote IP address 1 RPORT1: Remote Port 1 RIP2: Remote IP address 2* RPORT2: Remote Port 2*

*Remote IP address 2 and remote port only shows if you have configured them too.

View last scan:

1. Return to main menu. 2. Select Status and press OK. 3. Select Last scan and press OK. 4. Display will show the scanned operator, the minimum and maximum signal strength value and the average signal strength value.

View number of neighbor cells:

1. Return to main menu. 2. Select Signal Scanning and press OK. 3. Select Neighbor cells and press OK. 4. The device will show the text scanning…and after the scanning is finished the number of cells will be written on the display. 5. Note: The number of cells is an instantaneous value. This means that two scans after one another can show different results and that these values shall be seen as an indication more than an absolute value.
