St. Dismas Guild - Bible Study Info Prepare for the upcoming Sunday Readings by printing and completing our Bread of Life Catholic Bible Study! View and print the lessons here: https://stdismasguild.org/bible- studies/ or visit our Website at www.StDismasGuild.org The month of January is traditionally dedicated to the Holy of Jesus. After the Blessed Virgin Mary conceived by the Holy Spirit, the angel Gabriel appeared to St. Joseph and told him that the Child’s name should be called Jesus, meaning “God Saves.” According to Jewish law, on the 8th day after his birth a male child was to be circumcised, receive his name, and become a full member of God’s covenant people. According to the old Roman liturgical calendar, the Feast of the Circumcision of Jesus was celebrated on January 1st, eight days after Christmas, the same day that He was given His sacred name. Currently we celebrate the Solemnity of the Mother of God on January 1st and honor the Holy Name of Jesus on January 3rd. For Catholics, Jesus’ sacred name is the object of a special devotion symbolized by Pray for Our Priests the “IHS,” (sometimes called a ), which is the first three letters of the Greek spelling of His name. and Deacons

CULTURE OF LIFE AND PRO-LIFE MINISTRY EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Christmas Blessings! As we celebrate the birth of Christ, and enter the Christmas season, we would like to thank you for your continued prayers and support for mothers in need. Because Walking with Moms in Need is a parish-based effort, your commitment to help mothers in need in your community is so important. Please be on the lookout for more information as we seek to provide support to expectant mothers in our parish community. Your prayers are most vital as we work to create a welcoming environment. Both St. Mary’s Pro- life Ministries would like to work together in support of our mothers. One big project is to have baby supplies that can be given to a mother; we will be reaching out to our parishioners for donations. We thank you in advance for your support. Two priorities of the ministry are to promote a culture of life by promoting both fatherhood and motherhood and to educate our parish on the community support available in our county. Again, please be on the lookout for more information. We do want to inform you that currently, Penelope Ramirez has a Pro-life Rosary every Friday evening at 7:00 pm at the St. Mary Convent. This is a great way to reach out to mothers in need. May your New Year be filled with continued blessings, joy and good health! Thank you for your willingness to lovingly accompany pregnant and parenting mothers, who like the Blessed Mother, find themselves in need of assistance and support. If you are an expectant mother, please reach out to Mercedes Aguilar 760-580-9563. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is held Mon-Fri from 9:00am until 5:45pm. Debt ReducƟon Campaign

Thank you to the more than 2,200 who have donated to the Freedom for Our Future debt reduction three year campaign. St. Mary Parish and Father Scott are especially thankful for the kind and sacrificial efforts of those parishioners who have donated and completed their pledges during these difficult times. May God bless you for your generosity in this new year! In January the SECOND COLLECTION for the Debt Reduction Campaign will be held the third full weekend January 16 and 17. Although we have a special second collection once a month, donations can be made at any time using the GRAY envelopes or online at www.stmaryp.org. Please be sure to select Parish Center as your donation choice. As we transition to new envelopes and envelope numbers for the new year, please be sure to put your first and last name and address on the new envelopes. Please do NOT use 2020 envelopes in 2021. We want to insure that you get proper credit for your donations. We still have building gift opportunities available. These gift opportunities give Debt Reduction Campaign donors of qualifying gift amounts the unique chance to designate their donation to a particular portion of the Parish Center building and dedicate it in honor or memory of whomever they choose. Please contact Diana in the Campaign Office to get more information and reserve one of these.

KIDS CORNER

Sharing the Gospel This morning you helped your mother bring in the groceries. You washed part of his car for your dad. You took a bowl of soup to a sick neighbor. Imagine God's voice coming from the clouds: "You are my own dear child. I am pleased with you." The good things you do make God happy. He sends you help when you need it. He gives you little happy surprises during the day. Prayer Lord, I am proud to be your child. I love you.
