Trans-Lux Sports Provides Gary Southshore Railcats with Latest in LED Display Technology

Gary, IN (May, 2002)–When the Gary Southshore Railcats, members of the independent Northern League, open the gates to their new field in 2003, fans will be treated to a major league experience. The Railcats, under management of Victory Sports Group, have contracted with Trans-Lux Sports to install a RainbowWall® true-color LED video display as well as a Sunburst™ message center, baseball scoreboard, ad panels and analog clocks in the new Railcats ballpark.

“As a result of being in minor league baseball for 17 years, we have a lot of contacts and we trust their opinions. When we made calls to people using Trans- Lux displays, it became apparent that in using the Trans-Lux product, we would be assured of a high-quality board,” said Mike Tatoian, CEO of Victory Sports Group. “The reputation, quality and service of the Trans-Lux boards and how good people felt about Trans-Lux Sports was a major factor in our decision.”

The state-of-the-art Trans-Lux Sports display system, to be located in left field, will feature a 17’ x 22’ true-color LED RainbowWall display with video and graphics capabilities. Railcats fans will enjoy live play-by-play action and text messaging no matter where their seats are in the stadium thanks to the generous viewing angles of the display. Animation and live video will be brought to them in billions of colors by over 62,000 color-rich pixels. The system also features a 5’ x 35’ amber Sunburst™ message center capable of showing game and player statistics, animations and graphics. The new stadium will feature the latest amenities in luxury suites, a full service restaurant, a retail store and seating for over 6,000 fans.

“The products are high quality. Trans-Lux’s track record and the number of minor league stadiums that recently installed their displays is impressive,” stated Roger Wexelberg, General of the Gary Railcats, stated. “The quality of the boards and the high level of service played a factor in our decision to go with Trans-Lux.”

As seen in numerous ballparks throughout the country, RainbowWall displays smoothly transition between video, advertising, animations, scoring/statistic layouts and text. RainbowWall uses Trans-Lux’s unique XFS scaling which allows precise control of video images and improves image quality at the lower resolutions typical of LED displays.

The Gary Railcats will begin their inaugural season as the newest members of the 100-year-old independent and history-rich Northern League. Founded in 1902, the Northern League evolved through several versions before settling into its fourth generation of town-based, or independent, teams. After a twenty-year lapse, the fourth generation Northern League was reborn in 1993 and now consists of 16 teams in twelve states and two Canadian provinces. With a winning League and a hometown rich in baseball tradition, the Railcats 2003 opener will add another proud chapter to annals of Northern League baseball tradition.
