October 2, 2019

I am honored to welcome you to this year’s 12th Annual Bushwick Film Festival. After a decade of incredible screenings and moments that are unique to Bushwick, the festival remains committed to sharing stories with a distinct point of view. Each year, I look forward to attending the festival as the Council Member who represents this diverse community, and I am proud that our district is home to the festival. Thank you all for letting me watch with you.

For decades now, Bushwick has been a creative haven where residents and artists from all over the world have honed their artistic skills. The Bushwick Film Festival is an important part of this legacy, and this year, the festival will explore and celebrate stories that deal with the themes of ‘SPACE’ and ‘TIME,’ literally and metaphorically.

In addition to the pieces of work that I look forward to seeing, this year’s festival will feature free programming supported by NYC and Company Foundation, the office of the Brooklyn Borough President, and festival community partners B&H Photo and Canon. The programming present at this year’s BFF will offer festivalgoers a truly unique interactive and immersive experience.

Finally, I would like to recognize BFF founder Kweighbaye Kotee for being a leading voice in the arts community in Bushwick and the members of her team who have continuously made BFF a success over the past 12 years. Of course, I must also shoutout the filmmakers: their works are eclectic and topical, and audiences will be able to dream away, draw inspiration, and discover themselves in stories that reflect them and their challenges, in the way that only film can.

Welcome to the 12th Annual Bushwick Film Festival!

Sincerely,

Council Member Antonio Reynoso, 34th District Brooklyn & Queens

October 6, 2019

Greetings Festival Attendees:

As the New York State Assembly representative for the North Brooklyn communities of Bushwick and Williamsburg, it is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to 2019 Bushwick Film Festival

I work in Albany tirelessly fighting for stronger rents laws, education and housing services. A part of the fight is ensuring that needs for the 53rd Assembly District are met and by supporting cultural institutions such as Bushwick Film Festival who play instrumental roles in our community as a means to educate others in a creative setting.

The Bushwick Film Festival has proven to be a powerful addition to Bushwick’s rich cultural fabric and its constant growth is a testimony of ever-growing artistic quality and resourcefulness. I applaud the festival for its commitment to supporting and welcoming all storytellers, including those who fall within the margins in this country: women, immigrants, LGBTQ and people of color.

With over 100 films and special events presented by an eclectic array of artists, this year’s festival is sure to inspire and engage fans, filmmakers, and community members alike.

It is empowering to see Bushwick come together for such a beautiful celebration of what makes our city so wonderful: diversity, culture, and community.

Sincerely,

Maritza Davila Member, New York State Assembly 53rd Assembly District
