COLLEGE OF PERFORMING Dear Family and Friends,

Thank you for joining us for the finale concert of our 2014 Choral Music Camp. In a world with decreased funding for arts education programs, community programs like our Choral Music Camp are invaluable. My faculty, staff and I hope that by demonstrating the power of the performing arts-and our programs-to open imaginations and to engage and enlighten, young students involved in our community outreach programs will set their sights higher and dream bigger.

The Choral Music Camp is a tremendous opportunity for high school students to receive first-rate vocal music training, and to encounter the university as a place where they can turn their passion into a vocation. This week has been a successful collaboration between a variety of students from different backgrounds with the ultimate goal of working together as artists.

Each of the divisions of the College of Performing Arts - Dance, Theatre and the Hall- Musco Conservatory of Music - have unique and successful community programs, all of which stress our highly personalized approach to arts education. In addition to the Choral Music Camp, our Theatre Department's Henry-Kemp Blair Shakespeare Festival is an annual event inviting California high schools to participate and learn more about performing Shakespeare. In the Department of Dance, High School Dance Day reaches out to neighboring high school dance students for a one-day intensive dance program covering topics such as auditions and the college application process.

We are so very proud to have this opportunity to showcase the talents of our campers and all they learned this week. When they return to their high schools in the fall, I hope they will continue to apply all that they learned at our camp. I hope you will join us again throughout the year to enjoy the talents of our university students and faculty, and continue to discover what makes our programs so exceptional.

Enjoy the performance!
