Uniform The children look very smart in their uniforms. Thank you so much for supporting the school in this way. Please don’t forget to label all items and may I also suggest that at this early stage in the year all long hair is tied back.

Exam Success – (English now above National!) In August it’s always difficult to avoid the news stories about exam results, and this year was no exception, particularly as the new style GCSE exams were undertaken for the first time by students across Britain in English and Maths. These new style exams have been introduced by the government to raise standards by offering students a more challenging curriculum and the chance to access a grade beyond A*. The new GCSE’s are widely seen as the most difficult in many years. Under the new system, students can achieve from a grade 1 to a grade 9 (grade 9 is the highest grade) with achievement at grade 4 or above in English and Maths seen as the national benchmark standard.

This summer’s results saw some stunning performances in exams and in particular the English department are celebrating 79% of students achieving a Grade 4 or above, results which put our students above others nationally! Other notable improvements came in French and PE both above national and Maths who saw a 12% increase in Grade 4+. These results are a real testament to the hard work of our students and the dedication of their teachers. We all know that high achievement in English increases the opportunity for both academic study and job opportunities. The challenge now is for the new Year 11’s to follow on and make the most of their skills and talents: we know they are capable of doing exceptionally well.
