2 • Blue Wings Magazine Dear Grandma Ruth, CLUB NEWS It was great seeing you and Aunt Clara at the ACC’s Easter Brunch. I did ask the kitchen team if they flew in all that great tasting food from Europe like you imagined. Come to find out, almost all of the food is sourced (bought) from Ohio farmers. You better tell Uncle Chet to keep an eye on his hens that produce the double yolks. LD and I went to this great party called the Spring Fling (hoedown) later in April. It was similar to the holiday party where they had the moonshine, but they had those island drinks that make everyone dance better. That good looking fellow that you have a little crush on was wearing his usual bow tie. I have enclosed a picture showing that he always Mark Sell wears that little tie. President I am sorry that you and Grandpa Earmel can’t make it back for Mother’s Day Brunch at the Club. We just DOWNLOAD opened up the new casual dining space and I’m THE ACC APP excited to show it to you. Next time you’re in town, TODAY! we’ll have dinner in the new room. Blue Wings Magazine • 3 CLUB NEWS Be sure to clear your calendar for the evening of Wednesday May 16th! It’s time to gather for the ribbon cutting celebration marking our milestone 1st floor project. Please see details for this party in the promotion below!

Our club, like any central business district attraction, has the continued challenge of available and efficient parking. The ACC continues to look at ways to provide a higher quality experience for parking. To that end, you may have noticed recent changes to our parking and valet service. Our valet company, Citrin, has begun managing the parking lot operation. This consolidation of services enables the club to offer a higher level of organization and an overall improved experience for members and guests. As we continue Paul Kroll, Jr., CCM to explore and expand upon improvements to the General Manager club’s parking, we ask for your support by welcoming Citrin as they’ve proven to be a reliable partner in providing a club experience of which we are all proud.

Over the past year, while 1st floor construction has unfolded before our eyes, our Facilities Director Angel Mitchell and her staff have been moving ceaselessly. In the shadows of our highly visible project, Angel has overseen the ‘operations level’ capital improvement budget and schedule. In the coming months, users of the 2nd and 6th floors will see some of these planning efforts come to the forefront. In June, we will be installing a new ceiling in the basketball court/gym with LED lighting modernization, and plaster repairs around the track. The project will require approximately 10 weeks of scaffolding erected in the gym. The Gold and Crystal Room on the 2nd floor will also see scaffolding as those ceilings and walls, too, are in need of attention.

Thank you for your continued patience and enthusiasm for your club!

Gather with friends and fellow members to celebrate! Celebrate the completion of the First Floor Renovation Project! Wednesday, May 16 • 5 PM, Ribbon Cutting at 5:30 PM Complimentary champagne, beer, wine and hors d’oeuvres. Members only.

12 • Blue Wings Magazine By Carl “Cullie” Rechner MEMBER NEWS ACC member since 1995

On February 5th, 2018, I partook in a gastric adventure of no small proportions - or should I say “portions”...the 75th Annual Raccoon Dinner in Danville, Ohio. There is no way to fully prepare for this undertaking other than the comfort in feeling the brotherhood amongst 700+ fellow raccoon eaters.

Please understand the sponsoring of the Danville Lions Club does not necessarily hasten the demise of the central Ohio raccoon population through trapping and hunting (maybe some roadkill) for supplying the annual dinner, but the Club steps in to aid the natural order of things as the life expectancy of a raccoon in the wild is only 1.8 to 3.1 years. So, the typical raccoon is thinking: “with this short of a run, why not provide some nourishment to the human race and contribute to a charitable cause?” Studies show that raccoons are able to remember solutions to tasks for up to three years. Who knew they were so intelligent? But, obviously, in the 37th month, intelligence goes by the wayside and they forget how to avoid traps!

Back to the dinner. The taste does resemble bear meat, a common staple of most central Ohioans. A large dousing of barbeque sauce does mask (no pun) the flavor, and the Lions Club’s healthy side dishes of mashed potatoes, dressing, green beans, and corn bread (no paws or tails, though) fill the plate. Seconds are also plentiful.

The overall experience is worth at least one appearance. However, you do run the risk of being photographed in compromising positions (see photo, taken just before the attack). It has been several weeks since the dinner, but strangely I have developed the habits of excessively washing all my food, sleeping in the attic, rummaging through the neighborhood garbage cans, and wearing my wife’s dark eye mascara. ~Bon appetit!
