Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute physicians assist homeless with free foot screenings and footwear

Jacksonville, Fla., 11/04, 2014. The Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute (JOI) physicians are participating in the national Our Hearts to Your Soles event.

This will be the 7th year JOI physicians have participated along with more than 35 U.S. cities that help relieve foot problems experienced by the homeless. The event at the Sulzbacher Center, led by Hiram Carrasquillo, MD, will be on Saturday, Nov. 22, from 8 am until noon.

Dr. Carrasquillo, orthopedic surgeon, was asked by founder Stephen Conti, MD, to participate. He will be joined by fellow JOI physicians: Timothy Hastings, MD (JOI- Beaches), Edward Young, MD (JOI-Beaches), Gregory Solis, MD (JOI- Baptist South), Scott McGinley, MD, (JOI- Fleming Island), Brett Frykberg, MD (JOI- San Marco). More than 30 JOI staff volunteers and their families are also participating.

JOI is pleased to come together to provide this important screening and shoe-fitting with support from friends at Hanger’s Prosthetics (George Eubanks), Wing Shoes and Boger’s Shoes (Greg Boger). Matthew Conti and his father, Dr. Conti, an orthopedic surgeon and friend of Dr. Carrasquillo, along with Laura Conti, Matthew’s sister, coordinate their family Heart to Soles charity in Pittsburg, Pa. with Soles4Souls http://soles4souls.org/. Soles4Souls is an international charity that collects and distributes new and gently worn shoes and clothes.
