Welcome to SCORE! The Superformance Owners Registry
Since 1997, Second Strike, the Superformance Owners Group, has been working directly with Superformance, the factory, dealers, and owners to register all Superformance chassis and owners in SCORE, the Superformance Owners Registry. We have factory shipping records for every chassis shipped from the factory and owner records for over 4,500 current and prior owners representing over 95% of all Superformance chassis sold. SCORE is a vital and important part of Superformance history. Entry in SCORE identifies your car as a Superformance original, helps you get in touch with other owners, and as the master contact list for Superformance, allows Superformance to stay in touch with you.
Please help us help you by keeping your data in the registry correct, particularly your address and email. If you move or sell your car, please let us know immediately.
Second Strike developed and maintains the SCORE data base system on behalf of Superformance and Superformance owners. SCORE includes all Superformance makes - Mk III (427), S1, Coupe, GT40, Grand Sport, Perana, and Mk II (289). We currently have Superformance cars registered in 38 countries around the world, all fifty USA states, DC, and Puerto Rico. Access to the information in the SCORE registry is restricted and is available only to registered Superformance owners and the Superformance organization.
Second Strike also maintains the Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC) Registries for the Superformance Coupe and the Superformance GT40. If you are lucky enough to own one of these cars, your information has been entered in the SAAC registry as well.
In your “welcome package” you will find the following information: Registration Information for you and your car Registration Instructions Second Strike – the Superformance Owners Group SCOF - the Superformance Owners Association Second Strike Store Superformance Mk III Owners Manual Superformance Mk III Drivetrain Specifications Handbook Superformance Mk III Wiring Diagrams

Registration Privacy
The Superformance Owners Registry SCORE is maintained by Second Strike LLC, the Superformance Owners Group. The information in the SCORE registry is available only to current Superformance owners registered in SCORE and the Superformance organization.
The SCORE registry is copyrighted. It is not to be reproduced in whole or in part by any means including electronically. Any information provided is intended for reference only to the individual Superformance owner to whom it has been provided. Any other use is expressly prohibited.
In certain rare cases for very specific reasons, an owner may require additional privacy. In this case, the car information is maintained in the registry, but the owner information is listed as [Withheld]. This is rarely really needed and only 6 of the more than 3,000 current registered owners have requested it. If you would like to request this option, please email [email protected]
Mike and Pat Stenhouse Second Strike PO Box 4600 Davidson, NC 28036-4600 Superformance Registration Instructions for Mk III Registration Is Important The “numbers” are particularly important. We have tried to clarify this by carefully defining the three key numbers as described below.
Mk III Chassis Number
The Superformance Chassis Number is assigned by Superformance and stamped directly on the frame as shown in the photograph on the right. The number shown is in the 17 digit form, however your chassis number may be in another format as described below.
The Superformance Chassis Number is in of these three formats:
AC9CSLK1***AM1*** 17 digit form. Used on cars 032 through 577, 579, 580, 582, 583, 584, 586. The fifth character appears to be S for side pipes and R for rear exhaust. The sixth character appears to be L for left hand drive and R for right hand drive. The tenth and eleventh characters are the year produced. K1***AM1*** 11 digit form. In a few cars in the under 591 range, the AC9CSL was not used resulting in a truncated 11 digit form. SP*** 5 digit form. Used on cars 578, 581, 585, 587, 588, 589, 590. SP0**** 7 digit form. Used on cars 591 on.
The asterisks (*) are numbers that vary from car to car. Even if your VIN number fits this format, it may not be not be your chassis number. The only accurate way to determine the Superformance Chassis Number is as follows. 1. Open the hood. Look in from the left side. 2. Locate the upper front cross member. It is just in front of the engine as shown in the photograph. For reference, it typically has the remote oil filter mounted on it. 3. On the top of the cross member about two inches from the left side upright, a number is stamped directly on the frame cross member. This is the Superformance Chassis Number. See above for format.
If you have a metal plate pop riveted in this location, the dealer has covered up the Superformance Chassis Number with your state VIN number. In this case, do not remove the VIN plate. Write “Covered by VIN plate” in the space for Superformance Chassis Number. In this case, it is particularly important that you verify the Car Number as indicated below. Mk III Car Number The Mk III Car Number is used as a shorthand identifier by the factory. It is the last three digits of the Superformance Chassis Number for cars 999 and under, and last four digits for cars 1000 and above. The car number is also stamped on the hood hinges. Check either hood hinge plate where it is bolted to the hood. The number is stamped into the hinge plate. It may be partially filled with paint and hard to read, but it can be read. The number may also be written in grease pencil in the hinge plate. Use the stamped number. The car number is located in a number of other places. It is used at the factory to coordinate assembly. VIN Number The VIN number is assigned by the state where the car is registered. The VIN number will be on the registration card. Engine and Transmission The more popular engine and transmission choices are listed on the following page. Be sure to include displacement. Engine Notes and Intake Notes are helpful.

Second Strike and SCOF Superformance owners are fortunate to have the support of two owners’ organizations - Second Strike and SCOF. Although separate organizations, Second Strike and SCOF work closely together on a regular basis to support all Superformance owners. To get the full range of owner support, participation in both organizations is recommended.
Second Strike – the Superformance Owners Group Second Strike was formed in November 1997, shortly after the purchased of SP 218. The original goal was to provide a registry and newsletter for the Olthoff Racing customers. Second Strike started with 30 members and a 6-page newsletter. On a visit to the United States the following year, Jimmie Price asked if Second Strike would expand to include all the owners and dealers. Here we are 17 years later with 4,500 current and prior registered owners. The following is a brief synopsis of Second Strike functions and activities as they currently stand.
SCORE – the Superformance Owners Registry The primary goal of any automobile registry is to collect and maintain the history of every car produced. This includes every Superformance make - Mk III (427 Cobra), S1 (Lotus 7), Coupe (Cobra Daytona Coupe), GT40, Grand Sport (Corvette Grand Sport), Mk II (289 Cobra), and Perana (original design). We have shipping records in the SCORE database for every Superformance chassis shipped from the factory. The registry includes Superformance owners worldwide. We have registered owners in all 50 states, DC and Puerto Rico, and 37 other countries on every continent except of course Antarctica. In all over 95% of all Superformance cars sold are registered by owner.
The registry is the backbone of every owner support service. The registry is the only master list of all Superformance owners and is the most complete and accurate list in existence. The registry has been used to notify owners of Service Bulletins, to distribute newsletters and owners manuals, to inform owners of upcoming events, provide car history to owners and prospective owners, and many other owner services. The registry was used by Randall Thomas to launch the valuable and popular SCOF owners forum.
The registry is maintained using a sophisticated software/data base system developed specifically for SCORE. Principle sources of registrations are owner registrations through the Second Strike and SCOF websites, Superformance and the dealer registrations, and increasingly from owners through the Second Strike Store. It is important that all Superformance owners register with Second Strike and notify us of changes in address, email, or ownership.
Owners Manuals Second Strike wrote, printed, and distributed the Superformance Mk III Owners Manual, Second Edition. It also was the editor and contributing writer for the Superformance Coupe Owners Manual. The costs of both efforts were funded by Superformance. In 2009 Second Strike introduced an owners manual for the Mk III written by owners for owners with the blessing of Superformance. It is an owners manual for the completed car, not just the Superformance provided chassis. This Third Edition has three times the content of the Second Edition. It is printed on demand in full 8.5 x 11 size in full color and comes with a zippered vinyl cover to make it trunk proof. The cost of development and publication is funded entirely by Second Strike. It has been very well received by owners and is considered easily the best owners manual in the industry.
Tech Support In addition to the website, Second Strike provides technical and registry support via email and phone to owners, dealers, and members of the Superformance organization.
Second Strike Store The Second Strike Store offers publications, products, apparel, and artwork, primarily products developed by owners for owners. The Store is a mail order business focused on quality and support. All products offered are tested by Second Strike before acceptance. Over the years, Second Strike has shipped over 4,500 items to owners all around the world.
Second Strike – the Newsletter Newsletters were published regularly from 1998 through 2005. The first issue was January 15, 1998. It was black and white, no photos, 6 pages, 30 copies, and run off on a copier. The last printed newsletter was May 17, 2005. It was 28 pages, saddle stitched, gloss 80-pound paper, offset printed with one or more photos per page, and color front and back covers with 4,000 copies professionally printed. In all over 37,000 printed newsletters were mailed to owners and dealers. The back issues are a great source of Superformance history and are available on the website and in the Second Strike Store.
