Time for supply shopping, a swim in the ocean or to explore the town. This coastal resort with its colonial architecture has a special laid back atmosphere and the opportunity for lots of activities. O/N at a Bed & Breakfast/ Pension – Swakopmund Day 2) Swakopmund/Walvis Bay. You may wish to join one of the many activities offered in the area: quad- biking, sand-boarding, scenic flights, boat-cruises, etc – all activities are optional (extra) and can be arranged. O/N at a Bed & Breakfast/ Pension – Swakopmund Day 3) We depart along the coastline on salt roads to Cape Cross (120 km) where we visit the famous Cape fur seal colony which number over 100000 animals. The Portuguese sailor, Diego Cao, was the first European to set foot on South West African soil and erected a cross at this spot. Further north lies the Skeleton Coast National Park, where many seafarers and ships got stranded. We turn inland at Mile 105 into the rugged Damaraland with its scenic hills and rollercoaster gravel roads. We camp in the wilderness near Messum Crater. Day 4) The journey leads us over the picturesque Gobobeb Mountains along the Brandberg Mountain, which is the highest elevation in Namibia (2573m) Desert adapted animals like Springbok, Oryx, Ostrich and bat- eared foxes are often seen during the trip. The Welwitschia fossil plant and euphorbias grow abundantly in this dry and rocky region. Along the way we meet the small miners who dig for crystals and semi precious stones. We carry on through the dry river bed of the Ugab River towards the north and to a lonely desert fountain (Gai Ais) which is a green oasis in an otherwise desolate landscape. We camp in the wilderness again. Day 5) Today we shall experience some more adventurous driving through the Huab River bed, which is the home of the rare Desert Elephants, which number around 600 in the Kunene region. There are only two groups of desert dwelling elephants in the world, one in Mali and the other in Namibia! These elephants have adapted to their dry and often sandy conditions by having smaller body mass and larger feet in comparison to other elephants. We spend some time watching these majestic animals and make our camp in the riverbed. Day 6 & 7) Continuing our trip through picturesque landscapes we arrive at the mainroad C39 again where we camp at Camp Xaragu ( 78 km west of Khorixas). We sped today and the next day exploring the sights in the vicinity, visiting the popular rock paintings of Twyfelfontein, the ”Petrified Forest”, the ”Burnt Mountain“ and the ”Organ Pipes“.Twyfelfontein ("Doubtful Fountain"), features over 3000 rock engravings. This special site has been declared a „World Heritage Site‟ in 2007 by UNESCO. O/N Camp Xaragu Day 8) Departure back to Windhoek. We travel via Uis, Omaruru, Wilhelmstal, Okahandja back to Windhoek. 8 days Damaraland Included: 8 days tour with a rental vehicle inclusive of standard insurance and all camping equipment, leading vehicle with guide(s) and radio transmitter, all meals on tour, entrance permits, camping fees, 2 nights on BB Basis at a guesthouse in Swakopmund Rental vehicle includes unlimited km (Toyota Hilux 2.7i Double Cab or Nissan DBL Cab 2.4) Fee for second driver, 2 spare tires, tool kit, cleaning of vehicle after the tour; capacity of petrol tank = 150L; Excluded: Petrol, own drinks, accommodation in Windhoek after the tour. Dinners & lunches & excursions in Swakopmund. The excess of ZAR/N$20 000 for the rental vehicle which includes standard insurance has to be guaranteed by credit card: Following extra payable amounts reduce the excess Excess reduction to N$10 000 – pay ZAR/N$120 per day extra (netto). No excess (i.e. full insurance inclusive of tires and windscreen cover) – pay ZAR/N$250 per day extra (netto) (however, it excludes gross negligence) Please note: Due to the nature of this adventure trip we reserve the right to stay flexible in the routing at all times. If changes due to weather, road-conditions or vehicle problems are necessary, the itinerary may be adjusted during the trip. The Safari can be booked at any date according to clients requests. The proposed dates will than be promoted actively until minimum numbers of at least 6 passengers have been reached.     GENETIC ASPECTS OF Sn, Li, Be, Nb-Ta PEGMATITES AND Sn-W VEIN DEPOSITS OF THE DAMARAN OROGENY, NAMIBIA JUSSI TUOMAS OLLILA OLLILA, JUSSI TUOMAS 1987: Genetic aspects of Sn, Li, Be, Nb-Ta pegma- tites and Sn-W vein deposits of the Damaran orogeny, Namibia. Bull. Geol. Soc. Finland 59, Part I, 21-34. The pegmatites of the Northern, Central and Southern tin belts of the Dama- ran orogeny, which contain tin, lithium, beryllium and niobium-tantalum mine- ralizations, belong to the Abukuma low pressure metamorphic facies series, or to the intermediate-level rare-element pegmatite formations. The ore deposits of the Goantagab tin belt are cassiterite-wolframite-quartz veins at the closed Brandberg West mine, cassiterite-quartz veins and carbonate- quartz-cassiterite veins and orebodies at Goantagab. All the ore deposits of the Goantagab tin belt crosscut the Kuiseb Formation of the Damaran orogeny and are hydrothermal in origin. According to the present field and fluid inclusion study, the fluid pressure at the time of crystallization of the pegmatites did not exceed 2 Kb in the Northern, Central and Southern tin belts, considering the phase relations of the lithium minerals (spodumene absent) and the barometry of the fluid inclusions. The depositional pressures increase northwards, however, being about 1 Kb at Strathmore (Northern tin belt), about 1.5 Kb at Brandberg West and 2.4 Kb at Awarab (Goantagab tin belt). The interaction of metamorphic connate water with hydrothermal fluid of magmatic origin is proposed as the deposition mechanism foi vein type cassite- rite-wolframite occurrences. The pegmatites may have derived from the residual fraction of volatile-rich Salem granite melts during the waning phases of the Damaran orogeny and crystallized in high water activity zones around their feeder intrusions.

    25.1.2021 Aba-Huab, Twyvelfontein Of course we do a game drive first thing in the morning, hoping to see more of the elusive desert elephants. Soon we come across fresh elephant footprints and screen the surroundings attentively. The still low sun on the horizon is blinding us a bit, but we are not being disappointed. Soon one of us is shouting: “Eeeelephant”! 1 Incredible, to be so close to these wild animals. Elephants always move silently, hardly making any noise when walking through the bush. One cannot hear their steps only the breaking of a branch when they feed. The newest branches on the very top of the tree are of course the tastiest. Big trees are growing in the dry river bed, it almost looks like being in a park. However, the more westward we move the less elephant tracks we can see. On more oryx is our last wildlife before we drive out of the riverbed in De Riet. 2 In De Riet we are asked to register in a big book. The lady at the reception informs us quite pushy, that they live from tourists and would take everything, food, clothes and money…. After registration we look for the track leading us back into the riverbed. A reasonably used track turns in the right direction and we follow it. With a bit of searching for the right direction we get back into the Aba Huab. From here we follow the riverbed until we reach Twyvelfontein. The region around Twyfelfontein is renowned for its prehistoric rock paintings and many engravings.

    Namibia overview: The Republic of Namibia is in the south-western part of Africa. It has a population of about 2.1 million inhabitants and is 824292 km² big. Parts of Namibia are notoriously dry and much of the country is made up of the Namib Desert and the Kalahari. Towards the north the country becomes greener with the Etosha Pan filling with water from northern rivers. This area is rich in diverse wildlife. The Skeleton Coast marks the area where the Namib meets the Atlantic Ocean and is littered with wrecks of ships that ran ashore in the treacherous waters, whalebone shelters used by the San and ghost towns that boomed during the early diamond days. The country is bordered by Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The Orange River marks the southern border of Namibia to South Africa. The Kunene River and the Okavango River form partly the northern border with Angola. It is the first country in the world that has incorporated the protection of the environment into its constitution. Due to its harsh environment Namibia is sparsely populated with various groups. Its population is made up of San, Damaras, Ovambos, Namas, Hereros, Oorlams, Kavangos, East Caprivians, Rehoboth Basters, Kaokovelders, Tswanas and European settlers, mostly German. It is with great honour and privilege to address this August House and to welcome all Honourable Members and each and everyone present today in this Chamber. 2. You will indeed agree with me that we had quite an intense year. The Namibian nation has gone through unprecedented global crisis due to COVID-19 pandemic, and unfortunately Erongo Region was hardest hit economically, socially and emotionally. Families were discouraged, dishearten and left destitute. As humanly acceptable, 1 we all fear for the unknown, and as the result family bonds were experiencing challenges and this has greatly contributed to the negative impact on the operations on business and family lives. May we stand to honour those who have lost their lives during this pandemic. May we also honour departed colleagues. With God’s wisdom, guidance and protection we stand before His cross to give thanks to Him for granting us opportunity to work with our colleagues and to know them. May their souls Rest in Eternal Peace. Although, we in Erongo Regional Council faced huge challenges both administratively and on developmental agenda, we have lived up to our mandate of creating conducive environment for the Erongo Region inhabitants. I would therefore, congratulate each and everyone in this August House for his/her leadership.
