Dr.YSRHU has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with prestigious National and International Institutes such as Protection of Palnt Varieties& Farmer’s Rights Authority, Govt. of India, New Delhi; Biodiversity International, New Delhi; IIHR, Bengaluru; CPRI, Shimla; CRIDA, Hyderabad; NIPHM, Hyderabad; Central Soil Salinity Institute, Karnal; UAS, Dharwad; IGKV, Raipur; Acharya N.G.Ranga Agricultural University, Guntur; Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore; Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur; Agriculture Skill Council of India (ASCI), Gurgaon; Society for Employment Generation and Enterprise Development in AP (SEED AP); M/s.Jain Irrigation Systems Limited (JISL), Jalgaon; Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP); NRC o Banana; NCR on Pomegranate; IIOPR, Pedavegi; CPCRI, Kasargod and DFR, Pune for collaborative research and extension activities including PG research. Under commercialization of D.YSRHU technologies M/s.Cryptox Biosolutions, Perumchilambu, Velimalai Village, Tamilnadu, SSD, Kothapalli Village, Gopannapalem, Denduluru Mandal, West Godavari Dist and Godrej Agrovet Limited, Ch.Pothepalli, Dwaraka Tirumala Mandal, West Godavari Dist have entered MoU with Dr.YSRHU. Kadiyam Nurseries have entered MoU with Dr.YSRHU to support horticulture farmers on proven technologies and developed varieties, exchange of plant genetic material, activities related to trainings and post graduate student research. Dr T.Janakiram Vice-Chancellor The Events Visit of Hon’ble Minister & Inauguration Sri Kurasala Kannababu garu, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture, Cooperation, Processing & Marketing, Government of Andhra Pradesh has visited University campus on 19 January 2021 and inaugurated “Processing & Skill training Centre” at KVK, University campus, Venkataramannagudem in the august presence of Smt. Taneti Vanitha garu Hon’ble Minister for Women & Child Welfare, Government of Andhra Pradesh, Sri Kottu Satyanarayana garu Hon’ble MLA, Tadepal- ligudem Constituency and Sri Abbaiah Chowdhary garu, Hon’ble MLA, Dendulur constituency. Hon’ble Minister interacted with university officers and scientific staff of Dr.YSRHU. Vol.VII, Issue–2 Dr YSRHU e-Newsletter 16-31 January 2021 2 Udyana Sandarashana-2021 Organized “Udyana Sandarashana-2021” at University campus, Venkataramannagudem on 25 January 2021 for the benefit of farmers, village Agriculture/ Horticulture Assistants of RBKs and field level exten- sion officers of Department of Horticulture/ Agriculture. Dr. Arja Srikanth, IRTS, Special Secretary to Government, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, AP State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC), Tadepalli visited as chief guest and inaugu- rated the exhibition stall in the presence of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Dr. T.Janakiram. About 1500 nos. farmers and students from near by schools and colleges have attended the programme. Vol.VII, Issue–2 Dr YSRHU e-Newsletter 16-31 January 2021 3 MoUs Dr.YSR Horticultural Univer- sity entered into MoU with ICAR–Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research (ICAR-IIOPR), Pedavegi, West Godavari Dis- trict & Sir Arthur Cotton Nursery Farmers Association, Kadiyam, Rajahmundry, East Godavari District entered on 19th January, 2021. The MoUs were exchanged in the august presence of Hon’ble Ministers, MLAs and People’s representatives. Republic Day Celebrations Republic Day was celebrated at Dr.Y.S.R. Horti- cultural University Campus, all the constituent colleges, Research Stations and KVKs on 26 January 2021. Dr T.Janakiram, Hon’ ble Vice- Chancellor hoisted the National flag at adminis- trative office in the presence of University Offi- cers, staff and students. Vice-Chancellor has given Republic Day message on this occasion and stressed all to rededicate themselves to the development of the nation. Vol.VII, Issue–2 Dr YSRHU e-Newsletter 16-31 January 2021 4 Education Parakram Diwas Parakram Diwas was celebrated on the eve of 125thbirth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose at CoH, Venkataramannagudem and Anantharajupeta on 23 January 2021. Elocution competi- tions were conducted on this occasion and prizes were distributed to the winners by the Associate Deans of College of Horticulture, Venkataramannagudem and Anantharajupeta. Martyr's day Martyrs' Day was celebrated on the death anniversary of Mo- handas Karamchand Gandhi, at CoH, Anantharajupeta on 30 January 2021. Martyrs' Day or 'Shaheed Diwas' also aims at pay- ing respect to the freedom fighters who gave up their lives in the fight for India's independence. The Associate Dean and staff paid tributes to Father of Nation on the occasion of Martyr's day. Training Programmes Horti Business Incubation Centre (HBIC), CoH, Venkatara- mannagudem conducted three days training programme on “Entrepreneurship development through low cost process- ing of fruits and vegetables” to the rural women and youth (girls) from 21 to 23 January 2021. Dr.T.Janakiram, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor attended as Chief Guest and addressed the participants along with all university officers. The partici- pants were trained in the preparation, preservation, packing and labeling of tomato ketchup, fruit squash and mixed fruit jam, low cost machinery for fruits and vegetables processing; Schemes pro- moting entrepreneurship in food processing sector and Digital marketing of value added products of fruits and vegetables. In the valedictory session, Dr T.Janakiram, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dr.YSRHU attended as Chief Guest, congratulated the participants and distributed the certificates. The training programme was coordinated by Dr K.Uma Jyothi, Associate Dean, Dr R.V.Sujatha, Associate Professor (Agriculture Economics), Dr V.Sudha Vani, Associate Professor (Horticulture), Dr D.R.Salomi Su- neetha, Professor (Biochemistry) and Dr T.Suseela, Associate Professor (Horticulture). Orientation to B.Sc. (Hons) Horticulture first year students Orientation on academic curriculum to first year B.Sc. Hons. (Horticulture) students was conducted at CoH, Venkataramannagudem on 27 January 2021. Dr K. Uma Jyothi , Associate Dean coordinated the programme. Vol.VII, Issue–2 Dr YSRHU e-Newsletter 16-31 January 2021 5 Research Diagnostic Visits Dr M.Kavitha, Senior Scientist (Plant Pathology), CRS, Petlur on 23 January 2021 conducted diagnostic field surveys of acid lime orchards at Vengamambapuram, Subramanyam and Balayapalli villages of Balayapalli mandal. Observed Greasy spot severity with heavy leaf fall in acid lime gardens of Vengamambapuram village. In most of the gardens surveyed drying of branches due to pink disease was observed. Bacterial canker was very severe on leaves, twigs and fruits in acid lime orchards of Balayapalli mandal. Spraying of Carbendazim @ 1g/lt for Greasy spot and pink disease and copper oxy chloride (3g/lt)+ streptocycline (2g/10lt) for bacterial canker was sug- gested to dimethoate (2ml/lt) where new flush is coming. Dr D. Sreedhar, Scientist (Horticulture), Dr T.Naga Lakshmi, Scien- tist (Plant Pathology) , and Dr Y.Sharat Kumar Reddy, Scientist (Plant Physiology) visited mango fields of adopted village, VPR Kandriga, Rly. Kodur, mandal on 19 January 2021. Observed inci- dence of leaf hoppers and suggested remedial measures to the farmers. Dr R. Nagaraju, Principal Scientist (Horticulture) & Head, HRS, Anantharajupeta visited rose garden on 27 January 2021 and observed severe powdery mildew due to prevailing low tem- peratures and mist during morning hours and advised the farm- ers with necessary precautionary measures. Dr B.K.M.Lakshmi, Senior Scientist (Plant Pathology) & Head, MRS, Nuzvid attended diagnostic field visit along with ADH-II, Nuzvid, HO and other VHA’s at Tiruvuru on 19 January 2021 and suggested suitable recommendations to farmers. Extension Activities Vice-Chancellor to Village Activities As a part of “Vice-Chancellor to Village Program”, a training programme on “Mango production and protection” was or- ganized at Nagavaram (adopted village) on 28 January 2021 chaired by Dr. B. Sreenivasulu, Associate Dean, CoH, Anantharajupeta and coordinated by Dr. V.N.P. Shivarama- krishna, Assoc. professor (Horticulture). Teaching faculty, Dr K.Swarajyalakshmi, Professor (Horticulture), Dr G. Sarada, Assistant Professor (Entomology), Dr K. Arunodhayam Assistant Professor (Plant Pathol- ogy), Dr Firoz, Teaching Associate along with Horticulture Officer, participated in the training pro- gramme and educated the farmers regarding various management practices of mango. Naga Lakshmi, Scientist (Plant Pathology) and Dr Y.Sharat Kumar Reddy, Sci- entist (Plant Physiology), HRS, Anantharajupeta participated in planting of marigold, cabbage, cauliflower and radish near RBK and high school premises in adopted village, VPR Kandriga on 19 January 2021. School teaching staff and students have par- ticipated in the program. Dr T. Naga Lakshmi, Scientist (Plant Pathology) delivered a lecture on “Mushroom cultivation” to the students with power point pres- entation. Scientists of HRS, Kovvur carried out a method demonstration
