David Goodwin County Commissioner (International) European Scout Gdansk, 2020

Greater London South East (GLSE)

Intro After a gap of nearly 15 years, since the UK hosted the last European Jamboree in 2005, the upcoming will take place in Poland in July/August 2020. The Scouts and Guides of Poland invite you to join them for 11 days of activities, combining the chance to develop new skills, make new friends from across and experience Poland’s beautiful countryside. Based on its own island close to the city of Gdansk, the purpose-built site is within walking distance of beautiful sandy beaches, pine forests and a short bus ride from the bustling city. For more information on this fantastic event visit: www.ej2020.org.

GLSE Unit Greater London South East have been given 4 patrols, each made up of 9 Young People and 1 Leader. In addition, we have been given up to 5 International Service Team (IST) spaces. It may be possible to get further places, but this is not guaranteed. It should be noted, GLSEs participation at the European Jamboree in 2020 can only happen if there are sufficient Leaders to take the patrols.

Event Dates The Jamboree itself will run from the 26th July 2020 until 6th August 2020 and this will be organised by the Scouts and Guides of Poland. GLSE and the Unit will organise the training camps, travel to Poland, equipment for the Jamboree and pre/post Jamboree events/activities. This means that many details, for example departure and return dates, will be confirmed nearer the time. These will be confirmed as soon as possible, but this is unlikely to be before Summer 2019.

Participant Eligibility Participants must be between 14 and 18 during the Jamboree, meaning they must have been born between 26th July 2002 and 26th July 2006. Participants will join one of the GLSE Patrols and will take part in the full Jamboree programme. Participants must remain an invested member of Scouts / Explorers in GLSE in the build up to the Jamboree.

IST Eligibility Those individuals who are at least 18 years old on the first day of the Jamboree are welcome to join the International Service Team (IST). Being a member of the IST will involve well- planned work, time for rest, personal development through the inspiring programme activities only for adults, and a new concept called “IST Adventure!”. IST Adventure will enhance a concept of participation in the European Jamboree and give IST an opportunity to explore Poland, experience Polish hospitality and make friends by working in international groups of adult Scouts and Guides from all over Europe.

Estimated Costs and Payment Plans As there are still many unknowns, costs cannot be finalized but our current estimates are: • Participants & Leaders – no more than £1,250 per person. • IST – no more than £1,100 per person.

Indicative Payment Plans – • Participants & Leaders – £75 per months (Nov 18 – Feb 20). • IST – no more than £1,100 per person (Oct 18 – Feb 20).
