Next Week’s Gospel: Mk 10:2-16 Season of Creation 2021: One Simple Step You Can Take Today The theme for the Season of Creation 2021 is ‘Restoring Our Common Home’. During this season we are asked to join together to celebrate creation and protect our common home through prayer, reflection and action. You can find plenty of resources to mark this month at www.kandle.ie This year we celebrate this season mindful of the fact that our world continues to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic as well as a devastating climate and biodiversity crisis. We look towards two UN Conferences in the Autumn, COP15 (on Biodiversity, due to take place in China) and COP24 (on climate change, Glasgow) in the hope that world leaders take the urgent action that is needed to Restore Our Common Home. Catholics are urged to log on to www.thecatholicpetition.org to sign the “Healthy Planet Healthy People” petition as a key action for this year’s Season of Creation. Notice of Migrant Sunday Collection: Migrant Sunday takes place on the 26th of September. This year we are holding a collection to support the work of the Irish Episcopal Council for Emigrants (IECE) who provides grant funding to Irish organisations overseas working with the most vulnerable of our emigrant community; from the elderly and isolated to the undocumented and those dealing with mental health problems.

Season of Creation 1st September – 4th October 2021: “Rivers do not drink their own water; trees do not eat their own fruit; the Sun does not shine on itself and flowers do not spread their fragrance for themselves. Living for others is a rule of nature. We are all born to help each other. No matter how difficult it is…. Life is good when you are happy; but much better when others are happy because of you.” Pope Francis.

A Virtual POPE JOHN PAUL II AWARD Ceremony will take place on Wednesday 13th October @7.30pm. Streamed LIVE from the Cathedral of the Assumption, Carlow via www.icatholic.ie This year marks the twelfth annual Pope John Paul II Award Ceremony in our Diocese. Regrettably, we are not in a position to gather as a diocesan family to celebrate the achievement of our young people across our Diocese. Therefore, medals and certificates will be presented at parish level this year. Bishop Denis Nulty will virtually address the 300+ recipients live from the Cathedral of the Assumption, Carlow. The live stream of the ceremony will also be available afterwards on the iCatholic website and the iCatholic Player app. It has been a very different and difficult year for all, so it really is a credit to these young people and the support structures in our parishes and schools that so many were still able to achieve a medal against all odds. We hope that these young people will continue to contribute in a positive way to the life of the Church through their parish long into the future. For more information on this Award programme in Kildare & Leighlin, contact Cathriona Kelly [email protected]
