Group Managing Director Changes at Britam Holdings Plc Public Announcement Group Managing Director Changes at Britam Holdings Plc The Board wishes to announce the retirement of Dr. Benson Irungu Wairegi as the Group Managing Director of Britam Holdings Plc effective 31st January 2021. Dr. Wairegi has served the organization diligently for 40 years and has overseen the growth and expansion of the Group from a small home service insurance company to a diversified financial services Group listed at the Nairobi Securities Exchange with operations in seven countries in East, Central and Southern Africa. He has also been instrumental in the growth of the Insurance Industry. The Board appreciates Dr. Wairegi’s long service and wishes him all the very best in his future endeavors. As a result of his experience in the Industry, Britam will continue tapping into his skills in different capacities. After an extensive recruitment process which has spanned close to two years, the Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Tavaziva Chadamoyo Madzinga as the Group Managing Director of Britam Holdings Plc effective 1st February 2021. Mr. Madzinga is a Zimbabwean citizen and is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Swiss Re in the UK & Ireland and is based in London. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Cape Town, has attended INSEAD Business School, France and Harvard Business School. He is also a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (UK). He has over 20 years experience in the Insurance industry and has served in various capacities which include CEO Swiss Re (UK & Ireland), Managing Director Swiss Re Middle East & Africa, Regional CEO South & East Africa Old Mutual. He worked for 16 years at Old Mutual including being CEO in Kenya. He has extensive leadership experience both locally and internationally. The Board is confident that the Company will immensely benefit from Mr. Madzinga’s skills, knowledge and experience. This appointment is subject to the approval of the Insurance Regulatory Authority. (Britam) has announced a deal where Africinvest III, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) managed by Africinvest Capital Partners Management II, will acquire a 14.3% equity stake in Britam Holdings Ltd. The transaction, which is subject to approval from both regulators and shareholders, will see Africinvest III inject Kshs 5.7 bn for an allocation of 360.9 mn new ordinary shares at a subscription price of Kshs 15.9 per share, a 6.0% premium to the current market price of Kshs 15.0 per share. Britam is a diversified financial services group with operations in Kenya, Tanzania, South Sudan, Uganda, Rwanda, Malawi and Mozambique. Britam is Kenya’s largest player in the life segment with a market share of 23.0%.
