This academic year was a really awesome and unforgettable one with rich memories and noble activities.
At the very outset, on behalf of our college management committee and staff, I would like to register my heartfelt condolences at the sad demise of our former Principal Prof. Mohamed Faruk and our former
Associate Professor of English, beloved Dr. Y. Sayed Mohamed. We earnestly pray almighty Allah to grant them the holy heaven.

IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell)
The IQAC of our College strives to provide a good environment for learning. It envisages giving Quality Assurance (QA) in all the ventures undertaken by the institution. The IQAC gives more emphasis on revising the curriculum with a focus on need-based courses and global trends. It focuses on introducing inter-disciplinary, job-oriented and skill-based courses. It also focuses on introducing Choice-based credit system with academic flexibility for the students to select the subjects of their interest, introducing socially relevant extension programmes and implementing
Feedback Mechanism.

Cell this academic year.
A Special Lecture on "Challenges in undertaking Minor and Major research projects from UGC and other Funding Agencies" organised by the
Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Sadakathullah Appa College was held at the college seminar hall on 03.09.2016. Dr. A. John De Britto, Registrar,
Manonmaniam Sundaranar University was the resource person. He enlightened the gathering with details of various funding agencies such as
UGC, ICSSR, CSIR, DST. He also threw light on the subtle nuances in submitting the project proposals and getting them sanctioned.
A two day Faculty Development Programme on Emotional
Intelligence organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of
Sadakathullah Appa College in collaboration with ICTACT (ICT Academy

Professionals from the ICTACT Mr. Arunkumar, Mr. Nirmal and Ms.
Kalpana were the resource persons.
A NAAC sponsored two day National Seminar on Quality
Enhancement in the Contemporary Higher Education Scenario, organised by the IQAC of Sadakathullah Appa College was held on 07.02.2017 and
08.02.2017 at the college seminar hall. The Honourable Vice Chancellor of
Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Dr. Krishnan Baskar delivered the
Inaugural Address. He emphasised how critical thinking is important for the development of the self as well as the nation. The Honourable Secretary of the College Management Committee, Alhaj, T.E.S Fathu Rabbani Sahib presided over the occasion and delivered the Presidential Address. Dr.
Srinivasa Ragavan, Head, DLIS, Bharatidasan University, Trichy delivered the keynote address and served as a resource person for one of the technical sessions. Dr. Selvam Jesiah, Dean, Research, Alliance University,
Bengaluru, was the resource person for the 1st Technical Session. Dr. V.
Ambedkar, Associate Professor of Education, DDE, Annamalai University,
Cuddalore, was the resource person for the 2nd Technical Session. The proceedings of the seminar were released by the Honourable Vice
Chancellor of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Dr. Krishnan Baskar and the first copy was received by Honourable Secretary of the College
Management, Alhaj T.E.S Fathu Rabbani sahib. The proceedings was simultaneously released in the College Website and made available for download with QR scan. The Honourable member of the College

Devagiri, Calicut, and Dr. William Dharmaraja, Head of the Educational
Department, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University were the resource persons for the technical sessions of the second day. Dr. B.S. Madukar,
Adviser, NAAC Bengaluru was the chief guest for the valedictory session and delivered the valedictory address. The IQAC of our college also organized an Orientation Programme for the staff members on 22.03.2017.
Dr. N. Chandrasekar, Member Syndicate, Professor and Head, Centre for
Geo-Technology, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, and
Dr. B. William Dharma Raja, Head & Associate Professor of Education,
Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli were the Chief Guests.
An Academic Audit was organized on behalf of our College IQAC on 18.01.2017. Dr. M. Jezer Jebenesan, former Principal, Scott Christian
College, Nagarcoil and Dr. A. Suruliandi, Professor, Department of
Computer Science and Engineering, Manonmaniam Sundaranar
University, Tirunelveli were the Auditors.
The IQAC has been instrumental in streamlining the academic endeavours of the staff. It also ensures quality in all the ventures undertaken by the college.
Dr. A. Syed Mohamed, Department of Chemistry, is the IQAC
Coordinator and Prof. S. Khaleel Ahamed, Department of English, is the
IQAC Assistant Coordinator.
ISO The ISO of our college conducts internal and external academic audits to ensure quality in the teaching learning process. The certification of ISO 9001:2008 has been updated as IQNet International Certification.

The certification has been done on the basis of the implementation of
Quality Management System which fulfils the requirements of the prescribed standards. Prof. S.M. Abdul Kader, Associate Professor of
Physics, is the staff in charge.
The Graduation Day was organized on 01.04.2017 with Dr. B.S.
Ponmudiraj, Deputy Adviser, National Assessment and Accreditation
Council, Bengaluru, as the chief guest. He gave away degrees to 759 students. He emphasized the Preservation of Nature and its Resources especially River Thamirabarani, during his Graduation Day Address. The
Honourable Management Committee Members were present during the gracious occasion.
Academic Council, Governing Board Meetings and Board of Studies
Ever since the College got the Autonomous status, we have been convening Academic Council, Board of Studies and Governing Board
Meetings every year.
The first Academic Council Meeting for this year was organized
on 31.08.2016. The second meeting of the council was convened
on 27.02.2017. Dr. Venkataraman, Principal, Dwaraka Doss
Goverdhan Doss Vaishnav College(Autonomous), Arumbakkam,
Chennai, Mr. K.M. Sathak Thamby, former Associate Professor of
Zoology, Periyar E.V.R. College, Trichy, Mr. U. Abdul Salam, Mr.
M.M. Dheen(Advocate) and Dr. K.S.M. Sheik Mohammed
M.B.B.S. were present. The U.G., P.G. and M.Phil. syllabi to be
followed from the next academic year were presented to the
council and got approved.

The Governing Board gives the final approval for the academic
activities. It convenes meetings twice a year. For the academic
year 2016-2017, the first meeting was held on 24.09.2016. The
Honorable Management Committee Members of our College,
UGC nominee for our College, Dr. Ehsan Ahmed Khan, Jamiah
Hamdard, New Delhi, Dr. R. Pandian, Regional Joint Director of
Collegiate Education, Tirunelveli Region (State Government
Nominee), the Principal, Deans of Arts and Sciences, Controller of
Examinations and Director of unaided courses were present. The
second meeting of the board was conducted on 18.03.2017. The
UGC nominee for our College Dr. Ehsan Ahmed Khan, Jamiah
Hamdard, New Delhi and members of the Management
Committee were present.
The Board of Studies Meetings for all U.G. and P.G. courses were
conducted in two spells. The first spell was held on 10.08.2016.
The second spell of the meeting was held on 02.02.2017. Subject
Experts from other Colleges, Industrialists, Alumni and
University Nominees actively took part and helped in executing
the new syllabi. The General Body of our College Management Committee met on 03.09.2016. All our management committee members participated in the meeting.

Students’ Council
The Students’ Council has been installed in our College to inculcate leadership qualities among the students. Every year the Office Bearers to the Council are elected in a fair and democratic way. This year the election for the Council was conducted on 01.07.2016. Dr. B.A. Abdul Karim, Head of the Commerce Department, was the Chief Election Officer and Dr. A. 9 46th Annual Day 2016-2017
Syed Mohamed, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, was the Election Officer.
The electronic voting method has been in place for the last 5 years. A reservation of 50% was given to female students for their representation in the council.
A total of 65 class representatives (33 boys and 32 girls) and 4 office bearers were elected. The inauguration of the activities of the students’ council was organized with a ceremony on 19.07.2016 and Tmt. E.
Bhuvaneshwari, Honorable Mayor, Tirunelveli Corporation, was the Chief

SSHS

A scheme, namely, Students Self Help Scheme (SSHS), has been functioning for the past three years. This scheme is appreciated by many as it eases the pressure of economically disadvantaged students. Each student has to pay a sum of 10 rupees per month voluntarily under this scheme to help their poor and needy friends. The amount collected under this scheme this year in the Aided section is Rs. 18,000/- and there are 9 beneficiaries.
SHIFA
An amount of Rs. 1,14,742/- has been collected under the Students’
Help In First Aid (SHIFA) Scheme and there are 12 beneficiaries. The amount will be at disposal for the medical requirements of needy students.

Earn While You Learn:
Considering the poor economic status of some of our students and with the view to inculcating in them the work culture, we have launched the Earn While You Learn Scheme. The remuneration given to them is Rs.
50/- per day. Twenty two of our students have been selected this year under the scheme. The details are as follows.

Typewriting skill is developed in coordination with external experts.
The students are prepared to appear for the Typewriting Examination conducted by the Department of Technical Education (DoTE). 64
Typewriters are at their disposal for the purpose. The Classes are conducted in 5 batches. A total of 275 students are benefited by this
Programme. Classes for unaided students are conducted in the morning session. Classes for aided students are conducted in the afternoon session.
The classes are conducted in tie-up with the School of Commerce,
Palayamkottai. The Department of Commerce takes care of the smooth conduct of the classes. 70 students appeared for Typewriting Junior Exams 12 46th Annual Day 2016-2017 conducted by Tamil Nadu Government Department of Technical
Education last year and we are happy to announce that 43 students have passed in first class with distinction and 5 have passed in second class. I am happy to inform you that our college typewriting centre has been recently recognized as an Approved Training Centre by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
International Women’s Day was celebrated with great zeal by the womenfolk of our college on 08.03.2017. Tmt. J. Tamilarasi, Subordinate
Judge and Secretary for State Law Commission, and RJ Selva, an alumna of our college were the Chief Guests.
Islamic Study Circle of our college organized three special lectures this year. The first lecture was organized on 06.08.2016. Prof. K.F. Jaleel
Ahamed, Prof. M. Syed Mohamed Ilyas and Prof. M. Abul Hasan were the resource persons. They spoke on the importance of Zakath (Charity). The second lecture was organized on 31.10.2016 with Janab K.M. Ilyas Riyaji,
Chennai and Prof. M.L. Mohamed, foremer Professor, Government Law
College, Tirunelveli as the chief guests. They spoke on the issues pertinent to Common Civil Code. The third lecture was organized on 08.03.2017 with
Moulana A. Abdul Azeez Baqavi, Head Imam, Jumma Masjid,
Karumbukadai, Coimbatore as the resource person. He spoke on “The
Challenges before Indian Muslims today”.
Nehru Yuva Kendras were established in the year 1972 with the objective of providing rural youth avenues to take part in the process of nation building as well as providing opportunities for the development of their personality and skills. In collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra, our college organized a Mock Parliament and Yoga Awareness Programme on

Preliminary Rounds for Chennai Science Fest – 2017, an Inter-
Collegiate Science Competition were organized at our college on
02.01.2017. Dr. R. Pandyan, Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education was the Chief Guest. Prof. Shajun Nisha, Dr. C.V. Mythili, Dr. A. Saravana
Ganthi, Dr. R. Veerabathiran, Dr. K. Sahaya Raj and Dr. A. Arul Gnanam were the Judges. S. Bala Vignesh and A. Vignesh of I M.Sc. Physics,
Sadakathullah Appa College got selected in the preliminaries.
Infrastructure
I am glad to inform you that our College Mosque has been extended and renovated. A sum of Rs. 1 crore has been allotted for the purpose.
A Sports Gallery has been constructed at the cost of Rs. 25,00,000/- to give a spectacular glimpse of all the sports events. Mr. S. Muthu
Karuppan, Member of Parliament, our distinguished alumnus has magnanimously donated from his constitutional fund for the purpose. An additional amount of Rs. 40,00,000/- has also been sanctioned by our
College Management. The Opening Ceremony of the Gallery was held in a grand manner on 25.03.2017 with District Collector Dr. M. Karunakaran,
I.A.S., as the Chief Guest.
An Indoor Stadium with a playing area of 11,200 square feet has been established with the assistance of the UGC. The estimated cost of the 14 46th Annual Day 2016-2017 work is Rs. 1,40,00,000/-. The UGC has sanctioned Rs. 70,00,000/- for the purpose and has released Rs. 35,00,000/- as first installment. The College
Management has also magnanimously contributed a sum of Rs. 70,00,000/- for the establishment of the Indoor Stadium. A sum of Rs. 25,00,000/- has been recently sanctioned by the UGC as second installment. The grand opening ceremony of the stadium will be held soon.
A new floor has been constructed above the Microbiology
Department wing at the cost of Rs. 58,50,000/-. Another new floor is under construction at the same cost above the College Auditorium. Four new toilets have been constructed at various points in the college. The amount spent for the purpose is 31.3 lakh Rupees.
A new tiled washbasin with 15 faucets has been put in use in the
Ladies’ Hostel. In addition to the available Photocopy Centre, a new and separate one for Girls has been established. This may help the girls to photocopy their study materials easily that too within the college.
New furniture worth 4.5 lakh Rupees has been purchased for the betterment of the students. The furniture includes Book Racks, Tables,
Chairs, Library Racks, File Racks, Desks and Benches.
The open terrace of the Boys’ Hostel has been renovated with ceramic tiles. It helps preventing leakage during the rainy season.
Our College is often visited by illustrious personalities. This year the eminent Tamil writer and Sahitya Akademy Award Recepient
Kalaimaamani Thiru. Vannathasan visited our college on 05.04.2016 and graced the Students’ Council Valedictory Function. He released Kaanal

Meengal – a collection of poems published by talented students of our college.
Dr. Mohamed Henini, Professor of Physics, University of
Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom visited our college on 09.01.2017. His visit enlightened us with regard to the promotion of research in basic sciences.
Careers360 is a magazine which addresses youngsters and professionals in the age bracket of 17-35 with the view to guiding them in selecting the best educational institution for their studies, career planning and professional guidance. The magazine endeavours to help readers meet the challenges of the globalised knowledge economy they live in, by providing in-depth information and advice on careers. It seeks to provide well-researched and sharply structured content, in a friendly but confident tone. With the view to helping the +2 students in selecting a suitable college for their undergraduation, Careers360 in its July 2016 edition published a list of best colleges in India. Sadakathullah Appa College secured 30th place in the South Zone Rating and the 1st place in the three districts vis, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari.
I am glad to announce that I have been appointed as a Syndicate
Member of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University. I am equally glad to share with you that I got my second Ph.D. in Computer Science
Engineering from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli. I have also been appointed as Finance Committee Member at
Manonmaniam Sundaranar University.

The introduction of online payment of fees, both tuition fees and exam fees is another quality enhancement measure taken by the College.
Earlier both the students and the office staff had to face many hardships during the payment of fees. Now they can pay the fees with ease even from their homes. This has enhanced the quality of financial transaction between the individual and the bank.
A Blood Donors Club has been established in our College. Student
Volunteers have enrolled their names with their blood group specifications and contact numbers. This Club will help the needy during exigencies.
Mobile Jammers have been installed in the Hostels in order to prevent the students from using Mobile Phones on the College premises.

Sadakathullah Appa College Endowment Scholarship. They will receive a sum of Rs. 1,26,400/-. It is remarkable that Dr. M. Mohamed Nazar,
Campus Monitor and Former Associate Professor of History has been generously helping meritorious students who are economically underprivileged every year. This year he has given away a sum of Rs.
79,355/- as scholarship. 19 economically disadvantaged students are benefited. We wholeheartedly wish our beloved Professor to continue with his support.

Deeniyath Classes:
Deeniyath classes are gems that decorate the crown of this minority institution. 21 special lectures by eminent spiritual orators were organized this year. Whenever it was a common lecture for all the boys, the girls had their regular classes conducted by the respective teachers and vice-versa.
Prof. J. Ubaiyathulla is the convener. He is ably assisted by Prof. S.A.
Mohammed Rafeek and other staff in the smooth conduct of the classes.
Deeniyath Classes for the unaided courses were also held on the same lines. A total of 15 special lectures have been organized. Prof. K. Jaleel
Ahamed is the convener. He is ably assisted by Dr. S.M.A. Syed Mohamed
Khaja and other staff. The classes were conducted smoothly as the schedule was planned at the very beginning of the academic year itself.
The Resource Persons during special lectures spoke on areas such as
Discipline and Virtue, Quotations from the Holy Qur’an, Hadeeth and
History of the Companions of Prophet Mohamed (PBUH).
Moral Instruction:
Equal importance has been given by our institution to impart Moral
Education to students who are the future of this splendid and diverse nation. Moral Instruction classes for non-Muslim students are conducted in
15 batches every Wednesday with the able assistance of 30 teachers. Dr. S.
Mahadevan is the convener. Constant support was given by Prof. A.M.
Ayub Khan and other staff in the smooth conduct of the classes. A special lecture was organized on 22.02.2017 in which Dr. Kattalai Kailasam, former
Head, Department of Tamil, M.D.T. Hindu College, Tirunelveli emphasized the importance of Yoga.

Ifthar Get-together
Our College organizes an annual Ifthar Get-together to promote communal harmony and to reach out to our friends in society what the true spirit of fasting is. According to the words of the
Prophet (PBUH) to enjoin good and forbid evil, the Ifthar Get- together for this year was conducted on 28.06.2016 at Masjidus Sadakath
(College Mosque). Thiru. S. Siva Subramanian, Commissioner, Tirunelveli
Corporation, was the Chief Guest. Dr. S. John Kennedy, Principal, St.
John’s College, Palayamkottai, Thiru Swami Bakthanandha, Secretary, Sri
Saradha Women’s College, Tirunelveli, Moulana Al Hafiz S.H. Saifuddin
Aalim Jamali, Dubai and Thiru S. Baalaiah, Income Tax Officer gave felicitations. The event was sponsored by the Alumni Association of our
College.
Hostels:
The Wavoo Shahul Hameed Hostel for Boys provides accommodation for 184 students. Dr. A.H. Mohideen Badshah, is the
Deputy Warden, Dr. Abusalih Sheik, Prof. J. Ubaiyathulla, Prof. K.J.
Mohideen Abdul Kadir, Prof. J. Abdul Khader and Prof. S.M. Prasad are the Sub-Wardens. The Hostel Students Association was inaugurated on
23.08.2016 with a ceremony for which Er. Pushpa, TNEB, was the Chief
Guest. Jahir Hussain of III B.Sc.Information Technology is the Chairman and Mohamed Nizar of II B.Sc. Computer Science, is the Secretary. Dr.
Abdul Azeez, M.B.B.S., visits the hostel every Tuesday. The Hostel provides fully-furnished accommodation for the students who come in search of education and enlightenment. The Hostel has been enabled with

8 CCTV Cameras at various strategic points. A meeting with the parents of the inmates of Boys Hostel was organized on 26.10.2016.
The Girls Hostels accommodate 235 students. They are well managed by a team headed by Deputy Wardens Dr. Sithi Jameela and Dr.
K. Hema. Ms. Fathima, Ms. Sabeena Begum and Ms. Sulaihal are the
Residential Sub-Wardens. In addition to that 4 caretakers are working to cater to the needs of the girls. The Hostel is provided security by a round the clock watchman. The Girls’ Hostel Students’ Association was inaugurated on 24.08.2016 with Dr. P.G. Sunantha Bagavathy, Additional
Superintendent of Police, Q Branch, Tirunelveli Range (Retd.) as the Chief
Guest. A. Shyma of III B.Sc. Mathematics is the Chairperson and S. Shajitha of III B.A. Islamic Studies is the Secretary. The inmates of the hostel went on a tour to Mysore and Bengaluru from 18.02.2017to 21.02.2017. Dr.
Neelathatchayini pays a visit to the hostel every Tuesday.Two fully furnished Hostels provide quality and safe accommodation to the girls who come to pursue higher studies. Mobile Jammers are in place to prevent the inmates from using mobile phones. Incinerator facility in the
Girls Hostel ensures the safe disposal of sanitary napkins. This year a new washbasin has been constructed with thirteen water taps. Ten unused toilets have been converted into bathrooms and mosquito mesh nets have been fixed in almost all the windows of the hostels.

Programmes, Refresher and Pre-Commission Courses every year with a view to enriching themselves with updated knowledge and information.

23.11.2016 to 20.12.2016. Dr. M.I. Zahir Hussain, Assistant Professor of

Zonal Office, Tirunelveli, delivered a lecture on Islamic Finance. The
Department also organized an International Seminar on jkpo; kuGfis
Mtzg; gLj;Jjy; on 27.12.2016. Two debates were enthusiastically conducted by the Department. Deepavali Special Debate was conducted on
25.10.2016 and Women’s Day Debate was conducted on 08.03.2017. The
Department has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Tamil Heritage Foundation, Malaysia.
The Department of Arabic began its departmental activities with a
Guest Lecture on 23. 09. 2016. Dr. A. Jahir Hussain, Assistant Professor of
Arabic and Chairman, University of Madras was the Guest of Honour. He

Persian, University of Madras, Chennai, and Dr. K. Jamaludeen Farooqi,
Principal (Rtd), WMO College, Wayanadu, Kerala were the Resource persons. The Department organized a Quiz Programme on 07.03.2017.
Seven colleges participated in the event. Hajee Karutha Rowthar Houdhiya
College, Uthamapalayam, bagged the first prize. Annai Hajira Women’s
College and Sadakathullah Appa College secured the second prize. Wavoo
Wajeeha College for Women, Kayalpatnam won the third prize. Nearly 200 students participated in the programme. Dr. A. Jahir Hussain, Assistant

I.A.S, District Collector, Tirunelveli, as special guest. Two guest lectures were organized by the Department – one on the topic World Vision Day on
25.10.2016 and the other on Towards Synthetic Life on 24.02.2017. A Cancer
Awareness Program was conducted on 03.02.2017 with Dr. S.
Manimegalai, Medical Officer, Nellai Care Centre, Tirunelveli and Dr. M.
Abirami, Medical Officer, Nellai Cancer Care Centre, Tirunelveli, as the guest speakers.
The Department of Computer Science had its Association
Inauguration on 15.10.2016 with Er. A. Mohamed Saleem, Software
Developer, Technical Care Software & Services, Tirunelveli, delivering a special lecture on Android App Development. The Department also conducted a UGC-sponsored State Level Seminar on Android App
Development (WAAD2017) on 17.02.2017.
We are proud to say that our Library is fully automated. We have issued identity cards to the students with bar-codes. The e-Gate facility enables to monitor the entry, exit, book issue and book return of the students. A mock TNPSC Group II Examination was conducted in our
College. The exam was jointly organized by Department of Library,
Sadakathullah Appa College, District Library Commission, Team Trust and Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association.

Newspaper, Magazines and Journals for this academic year are as follows.

A total of 1058 new books have been added. 440 walk-ins, 25 OPAC logins, 15 e-resources logins and 10 e-resources downloads have been registered per day. An average of 78 books has been issued per day. The ratio of the books issued to the students enrolled is 18:1.
The Department of Computer Science (PG) inaugurated its
Association with a special lecture on Life Skill Development by Dr. B.
William Dharma Raja, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of
Education, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University. The Department conducted four guest lectures. The first lecture was organized on
09.09.2016 with Ms. Mahaboobathunnisha as the chief guest. She spoke on
Basics of MATLAB. The second lecture was organized on 06.10.2016 with
Dr. Suyambulingam as the resource person and he spoke on Internet of
Things. The third lecture was conducted on 24.01.2017 with A. Syed
Hamim as the guest speaker and the fourth lecture with the topic Neural

The Department of Business Administration started its departmental activities with Association inauguration on 21.09.2016. The
Department also organized two guest lectures for the betterment of its stakeholders. The first one was organized on 15.02.2017 with the title
Entrepreneur Influencing Factors. Dr. S. Silas Sargunam from Anna
University, was the guest of honour. The Department organized its second
Guest Lecture on Skills Management on 17.03.2017. Dr. N. Rajalingam from
Manonmaniam Sundaranar University was the chief guest.
The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics started its departmental activities with the Association inauguration on 13.08.2016. Two Guest
Lectures were organized by the Department. The first Guest Lecture was on 30.12.2016 with Mrs. M. P. Gayathri, Child Development Project Officer,
Puthukottai, as a chief guest. The second Guest Lecture was conducted on
02.02.2017 on the topic Career Guidance on Creative Job Opportunities- Interior
Decoration with Mr. M. Selvaraj as the guest speaker.
The Integrated Department of Computer Science (Computer
Science, Information Technology, Computer Applications) organized a

State Level Technical Symposium SACTECHFEST’17 on 21.02.2017 in a grand manner. The Department of Computer Science inaugurated its association on 01.09.2016 with Dr. A.H. Mohideen Badshah as the Guest
Speaker. The Department organized a One Day Inter-College Workshop on
Theory of Big Data and Cloud Computing on 26.09.2016. The Department also arranged for a Guest Lecture on Android Apps Development Programme on
06.10.2016 and A. Mohamed Saleem, Software Engineer, TCSS, addressed the majestic gathering. The Department of Computer Applications started its departmental activities by inaugurating its association on 31.08.2016.
The Department of Information Technology inaugurated its Association on
09.09.2016 and Dr. B. Beneson Thilagar Christadoss, Associate Professor of
English, St. John’s College, Palayamkottai delivered his inaugural address.
The Department of Commerce with Computer Applications inaugurated its Association on 22.08.2016. The Resource Person Mr. S.
Arun spoke on the topic Awareness of Insurance in India. The Department also organized a Guest Lecture on 06.02.2017 on the topic Usage of Tally
ERP in Modern Era.
The Department of Commerce (Unaided) inaugurated its
Association on 20.09.2016. The guest speaker G. Gnanasekar, General
Manager, District Industries Centre, Tirunelveli delivered the inaugural address on Empowerment of Young Entrepreneurs. The Department also conducted a guest lecture on Impact of Demonetisation in Banking Sector on
16.03.2017. Mr. S. Alagarsamy, Lead District Manager, Indian Overseas
Bank, Tirunelveli, delivered the lecture.
The Department of Commerce (Finance) had its Association inauguration on 16.09.2016. Prof. V.C. Shankar, M.D.T. Hindu College,

Department conducted its first guest lecture on 06.01.2017 on the topic

College, as the chief guest. He delivered a special lecture on Awareness on e-
Wallet.

National Service Scheme (NSS):
The NSS of our College has been very active and vibrant in taking philanthropic initiatives to reach out to the society. A total of six NSS units with six programme officers are in place to serve the society. The activities of our College NSS units are as follows.
. A campus cleaning drive was organized on 28.06.2016
. National Yoga day was observed on 29.06.2016
. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s Remembrance Day was observed on
27.07.2016
. 50 Saplings were planted on behalf of the NSS units of our College
during the Independence Day Celebrations on 15.08.2016
. An Orientation for I year students was conducted on behalf of our
College NSS on 09.09.2016
. A Blood Donation Camp was organized by the NSS Units of our
College on 17.09.2016
. An Awareness Programme on Road Safety was organized on
19.09.2016.
. A Special Medical Camp was organized on behalf of the NSS units of
our college on 23.09.2016.

. A film Neerindri Amaiyaa Ulagu which promotes the preservation of
water was screened on 11.01.2017.
. National Voters’ Day was observed on 25.01.2017.
. Saplings were planted on behalf of the NSS units of our College
during the Republic Day Celebrations on 26.01.2017.
. An Awareness Programme on Nutritious Food for Women’s Health
was organized on 30.01.2017.
. A Blood Donation and Blood Group Identification Camp was
organized on 31.01.2017. The importance and need of donating
blood was emphasized during the camp which was inaugurated by
Dr. Karunakaran, District Collector, Tirunelveli.
. International Forest Day was observed on 21.03.2017 on behalf of
our college NSS units. With the view to creating awareness on global
warming and deforestation, 25 saplings were planted on the college
campus.
Voters’ Awareness cum Corruption and Black Money Eradication
Programme was organized on behalf of the NSS units and Youth Welfare on 25.01.2017 with Thiru. S. Muthu Raman, Inspector, Swach Bharath
Scheme, Thiru. Rajendran, A Renowned Poet and President of Pothigai
Tamil Sangam, Thiru. Mahalingam, Pandiyan Grama Bank and Thiru.
Boswel Aasir, were the Chief Guests.
NCC (National Cadet Corps)
The College NCC unit has been working vibrantly with 104 SD and
SW cadets. Lt. K. Syed Ali Bhadhusha, Assistant Professor of English, is the company commander. Notably in the year 2016-2017, there has been an all- time rise in the number of various camps, awards, scholarships and 103 46th Annual Day 2016-2017
recognitions achieved by cadets. Seventeen cadets have appeared for the
NCC ‘C’ Certificate Exam held on 25.03.2017 and 26.03.2017 at Rani Anna
Women’s College, Tirunelveli. Twenty-Three cadets have successfully
appeared for the NCC ‘B’ Certificate Exam held on 25.02.2017 and
26.02.2017 at St. John’s College, Palayamkottai.

Sadakath Consumer Forum and Entrepreneurship Development
Cell is a new star in the Sadak horizon. It has been resolved to conduct various meetings, orientation programmes and consumer awareness programmes. In this view, we have organized one guest lecture on
Consumer Awareness and Consumer Rights on 06.02.2017 at the college seminar hall. Mr. S. Vairava Raj, Director, Youth Development Centre,
Tirunelveli has delivered the Key-note Address. A total of 50 students have enrolled with the SCF and EDC. Our students have been motivated to participate in various competitions and functions related to consumer movements. 15 students of our college participated in the World Consumer
Day programme organized by the District Collectorate on 21.12.2016. I am proud to say that our college SCF and EDC secured 3rd place in Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districtsfor running the consumer forum successfully.
District Collector Dr. Karunakaran, I.A.S., distributed certificate and honorarium in this regard at World Consumer Day celebrations on
21.12.2016. Dr. AjazHajaMohideen, coordinator of this forum participated and got 1st Prize for making Business Plan for budding entrepreneurs at the
UGC sponsored Seven Day Faculty Development Programmeorganized by
ManonmaniamSundaranar University.
Career Guidance Cell
The Career Guidance Cell has been very active this academic year.
This year was really an abundant and a memorable one for the Career
Guidance Cell with high spirited activities. Prof. Mohamed Roshan is the
Coordinator. It has organized a series of porgrammes and off-campus

. “An approach to competitive examinations” – a motivational
programme was organized on behalf of Career Guidance Cell on
17.09.2016. Mr. Mohamed Naseem, Trainer, Jamal Mohamed
College, Trichy was a resource person.
. A training and motivational programme with the title “Zeroes to
Heroes” was organized on 28.09.2016 to 30.09.2016. Mr. Vijay
Ramasamy, Sigaram Foundation, Karur was the resource person.
. A special lecture on “Employability Skills and Recent Trends in
Information Technology” was organized on 11.02.2017. Mr.
Ramasubramanian, ECCI Academy, Perumalpuram, Tirunelveli was
the Chief Guest.
. A lecture on “Employment Opportunities in Central Government
and Central Undertakings” was organized on 18.02.2017. Mr. N.M.
Perumal, Retired I.A.S. Officer was the Chief Guest.
. An orientation programme on “Preparing for TANCET
Examinations” was organized on 02.03.2017. Dr. Navaratna and Dr.
Priyadarshini of R.L. Institute of Management Studies, Madurai

Placement Cell
The particulars of Campus Recruitment Drives conducted during this academic year are as follows
Muthoot Finance Limited, Tirunelveli conducted an off-Campus recruitment drive for the post of Junior Relationship Executive in our
College for the final year UG students on 29th February 2016. The selection

TVS Training & Services conducted an off-Campus recruitment drive for the post of Sales Officer for ICICI bank in our College for the final year students on 15th April 2016. 166 Students from Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari districts participated. Mr. George, Senior HR Executive and Mr. Sibi Jacob, HR conducted the campus recruitment drive. Three rounds of testing, namely, Communication test, Online Test and Personal
Interview were conducted. 55 students were selected. Among 55, 28 are from our College.
Initially, the stipend given to the candidates during the training period is Rs. 7,500/-. After training period, the total emolument will be
Rs.1,75,000 per annum.
TVS Training & Services also conducted third Off-Campus recruitment drive for ICICI bank in our College for the passed out students
(2015-2016) for the post of Sales Officer on 20.07.2016. 231 Students from various Arts and Science Colleges from Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and
Tuticorin districts participated. Mr. George, Senior HR Executive and Mr.
Sibi Jacob, HR conducted the campus recruitment drive. Three rounds of testing, namely, Communication test, Online Test and Personal Interview were conducted. 41 students were selected. Among 41, 7 are from our
College.
The TVS will arrange for the lodging, boarding, travel and study material for the selected candidates and Rs. 3600 will be given as stipend
113 46th Annual Day 2016-2017 for 15 days’ residential training in Chennai. After their training period, the total emolument will be Rs. 1,65,000/- to Rs. 1,85,000 per annum.
In association with District Employment Office, Tirunelveli and
Department of Ex-servicemen’s Welfare, TamilNadu, Placement cell organized an awareness programme on “Avenues in Armed Forces” on
13.02.2017 for the final year and NCC students. Brig. SANGRAM DALVI,
Deputy Director General (Recruiting), Chennai was the resource person.
210 students participated in the programme and got benefitted.
The Placement Cell organized a Campus Recruitment Drive for
Jahan Research Associate Pvt. Ltd. a US based company also, for the post of “Research Associate” on 09.02.2017. Final year B.Sc. Computer Science,
B.Sc. IT, B.C.A., B.Sc. Maths, B.Sc. Physics, M.Sc. Computer Science, M.Sc.
Mathematics and M.Sc. Physics students participated in the interview.
Three rounds of testing, such as, Written Test, Group Discussion and
Personal Interview were conducted. 123 students participated. 12 students of our college have been selected.
Initially, the stipend for the training period will be Rs.10,000/- and the total emolument will be Rs 1,80,000 per annum.
Anti-Ragging Committee:
The Anti-ragging committee of our College comprises a Media
Person, a Lawyer and a Police Official. The Anti-Ragging Committee met on 16.07.2016 in the Principal’s Chamber. A special meeting for the first year students was organized on 25.07.2016 with a view to creating awareness on ragging. Mr. N.K. Stanley Jones, Deputy Superintendent of

Police, Coastal Security, delivered a talk on anti-ragging. Another meeting was organized on 05.10.2016 with B. Udhaya Kumar, Additional
Superintendent of Police and G. Ganapathy Subramanian, Tamil Nadu
Traffice Police Warden, Tirunelveli as Chief Guests. An Anti-Ragging
Squad has been formed to make surprise visits in both the hostels. A formal circular is sent to each class indicating the toll-free phone number and the stringent measures that would be taken against ragging. Frequent warnings are given to all students on behalf of the Committee. Phone numbers of the Coordinator of the Anti-Ragging Committee and the toll free number are displayed on the notice boards of the college and the hostels. Close vigilance and monitoring is done within the campus with the help of CCTV cameras located at different strategic points.
Alumni Association
The Annual Alumni Get-Together is an occasion when the alumni of our College come together to celebrate their memories with great enthusiasm and affinity towards their Alma Mater. They share their sweet memories. The get-together also paves way to elicit feedback and valuable suggestions from our alumni regarding the development of our institution on many aspects. The Alumni Get Together for this year was organized on
05.02.2017 at our College Seminar Hall. The meeting was honoured by the turn out of Alumni in great number. Our illustrious alumnus Janab K.B.
Shabeer Ahamed, Vice-President, Wahid Sons Groups of Companies,
Singapore was the Chief Guest and he generously donated Rs. 50,000/- to the college. The College is really proud of such illustrious alumni. It is remarkable that the alumni association of our college has handed over a

sum of rupees five lakhs to the college management committee for the
construction of Indoor Auditorium.
Youth Welfare:
The Youth Welfare Department of our College has been very active.
The student volunteers of the Department bring laurels to the institution
from far and near. Prof. A.M. Ayub Khan, Department of Tamil, is the Co-
ordinator. This year also they performed par excellence.

Youth Red Cross:
An orientation programme on behalf of the Youth Red Cross of
Sadakathullah Appa College was organized on 15.03.2017. Dr. Veliappan,
Zonal Coordinator, YRC, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University was the
Chief Guest and he delivered a special lecture with the title ‘Awareness on
YRC Activities’. Dr. K. Sheik Mydeen, Department of Business
Administration, is the Staff In-charge.
25 students from both Aided and Unaided streams have actively participated in the Handicraft Classes conducted by our college in collaboration with Juhaifa Jewel Making Institute, Kayalpatnam. Three students are in the third and final level of artificial jewel making. Five students are in the second level and seventeen students are in the beginning level.
A philanthropic movement has been started in our college named
MANITHAM on 22nd February, 2017 with a noble cause to help and pamper people who are mentally ill. Around 37 students have volunteered to join this organization. There is a separate whatsapp group which has the
Principal as the admin. Dr. A. Asaraf Ali, M.A., B.L., Ph.D. has volunteered to serve as the legal advisor to the organization. Despite the fact that the organization has been started only a few days ago, around 17 mentally ill people have been identified and taken care of. They have been given food, refreshment and clothes.
