Francis Wisniewski « SPORTS EDITOR Five wins. Twelve losses. It’s an ugly record, Drexel softball coach Patty O’Neill will admit it, but it doesn’t show what the women’s softball team is really accomplishing on the field. Last year, the team finished 18-32-1, and just seven of the 14 lettermen on the team were returning to play this season. The roster includes seven freshmen; the starting lineup has three. Consequently, not much was expected out of the team for this season. There have been a lot of encouraging signs in those 12 losses. First, shortstop Jaime Long has been a standout at the plate batting .386 coming into this week. “Jaime is hitting well, she has been carrying us offensively,” Coach O’Neill said.
