Pimenta. Abstract. Two deep-sea species from southeast Brazil, originally assigned to different subgenera ofOli - vella, are anatomically described. Olivella (Olivina) klappenbachi and Olivella (Anasser) careorugula, both described by Absalão & Pimenta (2003), present typical Olivellinae anatomy, with internal absorp tion of the shell wall and a non-spiralized visceral mass, the absence of a valve of Leiblein and gland of Leiblein, and a large cuticularized and muscular stomach. Olivella klappenbachi presents the typical radular morphology of Olivellinae, while Olivella careorugula lacks a radula and odontophore, which is unique among known olivids. A well-founded phylogenetic classification of Olivella at the generic/ subgeneric level is still lacking, and the numerous proposed subgenera are mostly based on the structure of the pillar. A total of 203 shells of the gastropods Theba geminata and T. arinagae, representing 44 samples (=stratigraphic horizons) from 14 sections, were dated using amino acid (isoleucine) epimerization ratios calibrated with 12 radiocarbon dates. Most samples reveal a substantial variation in shell age that exceeds the error that could be generated by dating imprecision, with the mean within-sample shell age range of 6670 years and the mean standard deviation of 2920 years. -

A BSTRACT Systematic list of the marine and estuarine molluscs from the Quaternary of Uruguay. Until now 142 species of marine and estuarine molluscs have been recorded from the Quaternary of Uruguay. This fauna is taxonomically composed as follows: Polyplacophora (2 species), Scaphopoda (1), Gastropoda (66) and Bivalvia (73). Accepted 17-IX-2008. Abstract: The feeding ecology of the brooding sea star Anasterias minuta within tide pools was examined in Central and South Patagonia. 8 470 observations of sea stars were made. A. minuta does not feed while brood- ing. It consumes a wide range of prey, including molluscs and crustaceans, and can be regarded as a generalist or opportunistic predator. The purple mussel Perumytilus purpuratus was the most abundant prey item (57.6%). -

CATALOGO DE MATERIAL COMPARATIVO ÓSEO Y MALACOLOGICO COLECCIÓN: MARIO JORGE SILVEIRA Corrector y colaborador HORACIO PADULA REPOSITORIO: Direccion de Patrimonio Museos y Casco Histórico (Gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires) Alsina 477 Normas utilizadas: Número: A los efectos de mantener un orden determinado en la colección, cada conjunto óseo asimilado a nivel taxonómico se rotuló con un número que entrada de un conjunto óseos o de uno solo si es el caso. Es ell orden de ingreso en la colección. Puede haber más de un número para un determinado genero y especie (o familia, orden o clase si es el caso) pues ingresan huesos de un mismo animal en distintas épocas, que pueden completar el esqueleto, como asimismo si son huesos de edades distintas de la especia (juvenil, adulto). Cada número tiene el nombre científico y común del animal ingresado. El segundo apartado es el ínice de nombres científiocos. El tercer el de los nombres comunes. Finalmente en el último de los apartados se detalla, procedencia de los huesos, recolector o donantes, o indeterminado cuando no se tienen esos datos. Luego el material referido para cada número de entrada. Esta presentación se ordenó por reinos, clase, familias, genero y especie. Para determinar si se trata de un especimen adulto o juvenil, se uso el criterio de poner una J entre parémtesis cuando el hueso es de un juvenil. Si no tiene esta aclaración es que se trata de un animal adulto. Se colocó también entre paréntesis la letras “D”, para el lado derecho, para el izquierdo la “I”. Si no tienen letras se trata de un hueso axial (vértebras). -

This considerable increase in diversity occurs specifically at the beginning of the Magellanic Biogeographic Province. Within this province lies the Strait of Magellan, considered the most important channel because it connects the South Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. These characteristics make it an interesting area for marine research; thus, the Strait of Magellan has histori- cally been the area with the greatest research effort within the province. -
