Describe the company, the type of business and its principal products or services. If the nominee is a manufacturer, describe the manufacturing process as well. Audible, Inc., an .com, Inc. subsidiary (NASDAQ:AMZN), is the leading provider of premium digital spoken audio information and entertainment, offering customers a new way to enhance and enrich their lives every day. Audible was created to unleash the emotive music in language and the habituating power and utility of verbal expression. Audible content includes more than 425,000 audio programs from leading publishers, broadcasters, entertainers, magazine and newspaper publishers, and business information providers. Audible is also the provider of spoken-word audio products for Apple’s iTunes Store. 2. Describe the community service activity or activities that you wish to have considered for this award, including the actual work that the nominee completed, including and use of company staff resources.

In celebration of Audible’s 20th anniversary and 10 years of being headquartered in Newark, Audible launched its “Project Listen Up” initiative in November, giving each Newark high school student and teacher a free year of Audible membership, an Amazon Fire tablet, headphones, and a bundle of more than 150 “recommended reading” titles selected by Newark educators. Audible moved to Newark with a vision to truly be a part of a great city’s turnaround, and for the last 10 years, we’ve worked to realize that vision through efforts on behalf of Newark students as well as a continued focus on recruiting tech companies to the city. “Project Listen Up” exemplifies our commitment to Newark by leveraging our innovative culture and our product as a vehicle for enhancing the lives of those who live in the community we are based in. We feel passionately about unleashing the educational power of Audible to Newark students as a learning accelerator and time-management utility, and exposing them to the power of the spoken word. “Project Listen Up” is also about our embrace of Newark as our adopted hometown and a “thank you” to the many Audible paid Newark high school and college interns, and now many employees from Newark or living in Newark, who have added so much to our culture and purpose. 3. Describe the people, organizations and/or communities that benefited from those activities and how they benefited. The thousands of students and teachers in Newark participating in “Project Listen Up” now have access to Audible’s extensive library of audio content, a powerful resource that will empower students by putting them at the center of their own learning. Audible is working closely with Newark Public Schools to ensure that this learning tool is built into curricula and educational activities to maximize the potential for learning. In addition, the initiative was a tangible, meaningful way for employees across all functions of the company to join Audible’s mission to be a part of the improvement of people’s lives in our home city. More than 150 employees offered their time and resources to volunteer at dozens of distribution events, directly engaging with students and teachers at schools who will be directly impacted by “Project Listen Up.”
