Role of tbe Crime Commission
The Nebraska Commission on Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice (Crime Commission) was created in 1967 by an executive order of the Governor and was established as an agency of state government in 1969. The Commission was originally formed to conrluct studies, develop plans, and administer federal funds for the improvement of Nebra<;ka's criminal justice system. OV('ll' the years, the Commission's role has evolved and currently it serves as an "umbrella" agency for the administration of several criminal justice programs.
Responsibilities assigned to the Crime Commission include the administration of the following programs and activities: o Law Enforcement Training Center o Jail Standards Board o Uniform Crime Reporting System o Juvenile Court Reporting System o Crime Victims Reparations o Aid to Victim-Witness Centers o Anti-Drug Abuse Act Funds o Gang/Drug Pilot Projects o Justice Assistance A.ct Funds o Nebraska's participation in the Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention Act o Criminal Justice FilmNideo Library o Criminal Justice Clearinghouse Library o Statistical Analysis Center o Jail Inmate Records & Statistical System o Privacy & Security of Criminal History Information o Continuing Legal Education fol' County Attorneys and Deputy County Attorneys o Aid to Reservation Law Enforcement Crime Commission members as of March, 1990 are listed below:

With the exceptio:1 of a few statutory appointees, Commission members are appointed by the Governor to six year terms. The Governor designates one member as chairman. The Commission meets on a quarterly basis, providing a representative group for consideration and disposition of criminal justice issues.
Criminal Justice Directory
The Commission publishes a Nebraska Criminal Justice Directory in an attempt to provide a comprehensive listing of key criminal justice personnel throughout the state. Hopefully. the directory wili promote the exchange of information among the members of the criminal justice system. The directory is divided into seven sections as follows: (1) Law Enforcement, (2) Corrections, (3) Judicial System, (4) Education, (5) State Senators/Congressmen (6) Victim Witness!Domestic Violence, and (7) Criminal Justice Organizations. A detailed list of what each section contains can be found in the Table of Ccntents on the following pages.
If funding permits, the directory will be updated and published on an annual basis. Although an effort has been made to carefully check all the names and agencies listed in the directory, some mistakes may have occurred.
