JOURNEY OF A LIFETIME TO THE LAND OF THE BIBLE

Day 1: Sunday, departure Toronto on El Al Airlines at 130 pm approximately.

Day 2: Monday, arrival Tel Aviv / Tiberias Arrival in Tel Aviv, Ben Gurion Airport, at approximately 7 am. You will be met by your guide and start your tour of the Holy Land. A short drive up the coast from Tel Aviv, we will arrive at Akko, the perfect place to begin your exploration of the Holy Land. For thousand of years, Akko or (Acres) has thrived on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. This city was first mentioned in the Bible as part of the tribe of Asher’s inheritance, and then reappeared as Ptolemais in the book of Acts. Akko’s impressive harbor was known for centuries as the Gateway to the Holy Land, and here thousands of ships brought international dignitaries, lumber, spices, and other exotic goods. Akko is the best-preserved Crusader city in the country, with its deep-water port, the Crusaders link with Christian Europe. Here we will admire the views of the impressive crusader fortress, walk on the stone walls overlooking the Mediterranean and meander through the colorful markets. Then we drive to Haifa, on the slopes of Mount Carmel and its mountain top is home of the “Cave of Elijah,” A top Mount Carmel is this grotto linked to the prophet Elijah and Elisha. We will also visit a monastery by the name of Stella Maris, Latin for “Star of the Sea “referring to an early title accorded to Mary, the mother Jesus. Finally, we arrive to our hotel for check-in, dinner and overnight. (B, D)

Day 3: Tuesday, Tiberias, Nazareth, Cana & Mt. Tabor Today we will make our way to Cana, site of Jesus’ first miracle at the wedding feast. Here we invite couples to renew their vows. Proceed to Nazareth where we visit the Basilica of the Annunciation for Mass, then continue to St. Joseph’s workshop and Mary’s Well. Our next stop is the site of the Transfiguration at Mt. Tabor. We return to our hotel for dinner and overnight stay. (B, D)

Day 4: Wednesday, Tiberias, Capernaum & Sea of Galilee This morning we begin with ride on the Sea of Galilee. We will then visit a replica of a fishing boat from the time Christ. Our visit continues to the Mt. of Beatitudes to gain a panoramic view of the Sea of Galilee. We will visit where it is believed that Jesus fed a crowd of 5000. From there we will visit Capernaum where Jesus began his Galilean ministry; visiting the synagogue which dates to the time of Jesus and the site of Peter’s home. We return to our hotel for dinner and overnight stay. (B, D)

Day 5: Thursday, Welcome to Joran, Madaba & Nebo Today we will cross the Northern border, crossing Sheikh Hussein to Jordan. Welcome to Jordan! We will visit Madaba, “The City of ,” & Mt Nebo from which Moses saw the Promised Land before he died. We will then drive to Petra for dinner and overnight stay.(B, D)

Day 6: Friday, Petra Today we will spend our time exploring Petra. It’s one of the world’s most famous archaeological sites, where ancient Eastern traditions blend with Hellenistic architecture. Dinner ad overnight in Petra. (B, D)

Day 7: Saturday, Allenby border crossing & Jericho We will drive to Allenby Border crossing (3 and a half hours drive) After crossing, we will head to Jericho to view the Mt. of Temptation from a distance, now home to a Greek Orthodox Monastery. We will also see the traditional sycamore tree of Zacchaeus. Then it is up to Jerusalem for dinner and overnight stay.(B, D)

Day 8: Sunday, Jerusalem, Ein Karem & Visitation, Bethlehem This morning we will begin our day with a Mass at the Church of the Nativity, the birthplace of Jesus. St. Jerome’s Chapel and St. Catherine’s Church. We take a drive to The Shepherd’s Fields the location where the Shepherds sited the Star of Nativity before venturing to visit Jesus. We will visit the caves and the Grotto of the Manger, returning to Jerusalem. E stop in Ein Karem where we visit the Church of St. John and Baptist and the back to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay. (B, D)

Day 9: Monday, Jerusalem, Mount of Olive and Mt. Zion We begin this day with a visit to Mt. Olives where we gain a panoramic view of the old City of Jerusalem. We visit the place of the Ascension, Pater Noster (commemorating the “Our Father”) Dominius Flevit (where Jesus wept over Jerusalem), and the Church of All Nations in the Garden of Gethsemane. I the afternoon we visit Saint Peter in Gallicantu on Mt. Zion, Pending available time we visit the Church of the Dormition of Our Lady, and the Upper Room, commemorating the Last Supper, back to our hotel for dinner and overnight stay. (B, D)

Day 10: Tuesday, Jerusalem Old City, The Holy Sepulchre and free time. We enter the Old City of Jerusalem through St. Stephen’s Gate to visit the Crusader Church of St. Anne, the best- preserved Crusader church in Jerusalem, marking the traditional site of the home of Jesus’ maternal grandparents, Anne and Joashim, and the birthplace of the Virgin Mary. We observe the nearby The Ecco Home (“Beholdthe Man”) Arch, located at the beginning of the Via Dolorosa. Tradition holds that this was where Pilate pronounced judgment on Jesus. Then we gather at the Antonia Palace to walk the Via Dolorosa, the Way of the Cross or the Way of Suffering, where nearly 2000 years ago Jesus of Nazareth carried his cross to his crucifixion. We conclude the Via Dolorosa, at the site of Calvary for Mass at the Crusader’s Chapel in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. We take a moment here to reflect about the sorrows of Jesus and to repent our own sins, and he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” We will take a tour of the Holy Sepulcher and the empty Tomb. The rest of the day is free to explore on your own. Back to our hotel for dinner and overnight stay. (B, D)

Day 11: Wednesday, Jerusalem / Free Time to Pack / Emmaus / Tel Aviv Jaffa and Farewell Dinner. Breakfast, in the morning, we take some time to pack and get ready for our evening flight to Toronto. Today is our last touring day in the Holy Land, we drive to the village of Emmaus. This village was the setting for one of the most touching of Christ’s post. Resurrection appearance. After Jesus’ resurrection, two men (one of them named Cleopas) were walking from Jerusalem to a village called Emmaus (Luke 24:13,18). The men did not recognize Jesus when he appeared to them and began walking with them on the road to Emmaus (Luke24:14,16) Here we visit the church dedicated to this event. Then we drive to the modern city of Tel Aviv. We enjoy a tour of the city by bus. Finally, we arrive at the biblical town of Joppa known today as Jaffa. Peter came to Joppa from Lydda to raise Tabitha (Dorcas) from the dead (Acts 9:36-42) While in Joppa the apostle stayed at the house of Simon the Tanner. When Peter was praying on the roof, he had a vision of a large sheet filled with animals being lowered from heaven (Acts 9:43-10:25), signaling to him to go with the messengers from Cornelius, a centurion in the Roman army. The Church of St. Peter marks the traditional site of Peters’ vision of the great sheet. A farewell dinner in Jaffa and drive to Ben Gurion Airport. (B, D)
