WINTER COMMENCEMENT SEAVER COLLEGE PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY

It began in 1937 when George Pepperdine, founder of the Western Auto Supply Company, gave the bulk of his fortune to begin a Christian liberal arts college in Los Angeles. The first year the student body numbered 137. Now that small college has grown into a university with more than 7,000 students on two campuses - the original location in South Central Los Angeles, the new campus in Malibu. A small campus in Heidelberg, Germany is the home of the Year in Europe program of Seaver College. Resident centers throughout California and Hawaii serve tens of thousands more, primarily teachers, business people, and men and women in the military with evening and weekend classes. The spectacular Malibu campus opened in 1972. This new multimillion dollar campus is nestled in a beautiful setting on the hills overlooking the Pacific. On April 20, 1975, the liberal arts college at Malibu was named Frank R. Seaver College. Seaver College is planned as a small college stressing an interdisciplinary curriculum and academic excellence. Most students at Seaver College are resident students. Also located in Malibu is the new campus for the School of Law. Pepperdine is growing and changing rapidly-as an institution must do to provide leadership in today's world. But through it all, Pepperdine holds fast to the things that never change: faith in God, commitment to service of fellowmen, dedication to the search for truth and to upholding moral values. As George Pepperdine told the college's first students: "When you have finished four years' work in this college, it is our intention that you shall have not only a thorough education, but a thorough faith in God." The success of Pepperdine University can be measured by the great number of its graduates who have both of these. Arthur G. Linkletter

Arthur Gordon Linkletter is at the top of his profession of radio and television producing and performing, with 40 years of presenting fresh, wholesome entertainment. His "People Are Funny" program, on television and radio for 19 years, and "House Party," for 25 years, are known for their perennial appeal and their predictable quality.

Mr. Linkletter was born in Moosejaw, Saskatchewan, Canada. He was an orphan adopted by a Baptist minister. With his adopted family, Art Linkletter came to , California, where he attended high school and was graduated from San Diego State College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Since then, he has written, produced and performed in radio and television. In addition to his top rated shows, Art Linkletter has starred in a number of television specials, two major motion pictures and a half dozen television dramas. Books by Art Linkletter now number 13, one of which is Kids Say the Darndest Things, one of the top 15 best sellers in American publishing history.

Mr. Linkletter serves in a number of appointive posts for the federal government as well as holding membership on the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO. He was named Speaker of the Year in 1969 by the International Platform Associates, Salesman of the Year and Grandfather of the Year. His leadership in national charitable organizations has brought him an office full of commendations from the Easter Seal campaign, National Heart Week, National Cancer Week, National Arthritis Foundation, Foster Parents Plan, Goodwill Industries, YMCA and Boy Scouts of America. He is married to the former Lois Foerster of San Diego. The Linkletters are the parents of five children. David H. Murdock David H. Murdock is chairman of the board, president, chief executive officer and principal shareholder of Pacific Holding Corporation, a diversified international company engaged in mining, manufacturing, and marine terminal operations, with substantial ownership interests in many major corporations. In addition Mr. Murdock is the founder and sole proprietor of Murdock Development Company, a nationally known real estate development/investment organization primarily engaged in the development and ownership of high-rise multiple- tenant office complexes. Mr. Murdock also owns Goettl Air Conditioning Corporation, which is principally engaged in the manufacture, distribution and installation of heating, air conditioning, and solar products, and is Arizona's largest residential air conditioning service contractor. A native of Missouri, Mr.Murdock moved to Arizona at the conclusion of World War II after serving in the U.S. Army. Mr. Murdock commenced his business career in the real estate field. Timing and tenacity were his only partners, and with the post war housing shortage and his determination to succeed, Mr. Murdock's small home building business soon grew into a major commercial real estate development and investment company. A real estate man who is as much at home in the manufacturing and mining fields as in a budget and finance meeting, Mr. Murdock took over the stewardship of the Pacific Holding, an American stock exchange company, which had an unimpressive growth rate. In the four years he headed the company, he has managed to consistently increase profits and vastly expand the asset base of the company through the acquisition of two major corporations, one of which was listed on the New York Stock Exchange. His civic and charitable activities are numerous. He has been extremely active and supportive to the Republican Party in both Arizona and California, and is currently Western Regional Republican Eagles Chairman, a national organization consisting of major donors to the party.

Mr. Murdock and his wife, the former Gabriele Lang, have three boys, Eugene, David jr., and Justin and make their home in Beverly Hills, California. SEAVER COLLEGE OF LETTERS, ARTS, AND SCIENCES PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY

*(This is not an official graduation list) PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY AFFIRMS

That God is. That He is revealed uniquely in Christ. That the educational process may not, with impunity, be divorced from the process. That the student, as a person of infinite dignity, is the heart of the educational enterprise. That the quality of student life is a valid concern of the University. That truth, having nothing to fear from investigation, must be pursued relentlessly in every discipline. That spiritual commitment, rather than being an excuse for mediocrity, demands the highest standards of academic excellence. That freedom, whether spiritual, intellectual, or economic, is indivisible. That knowledge calls, ultimately, for a life of service.
