Gone are 18 seniors from last year’s team, including its top three rushers, its top receiver, two key linemen who are now playing for UNI and four of its top five tack- lers. Add to that a returning start- ing quarterback who did not come out for football this year and Coach Alex Pollock’s team will have a lot of growing to do this year. “We’ve got a good group of 10 seniors who are ready for their chance, their opportunity,” Pollock said. “We graduated a big group that had played a lot of snaps, so this group’s kind of been waiting their turn, playing some special teams and some spot duty here and there. They’re a good group. They’re very hard working, we had an excellent summer where 75 percent of our guys were there at least 85 percent of the time which is the best I’ve ever had.” Pollock said, with this year’s smaller senior class, those in the junior class will need to step up and Members of the 2016 Aplington-Parkersburg High School football team include, front row (left to right): Coach Clint Dohlman, Coach Mark Haren, Coach Brian Benning, play more. The Falcons returned four seniors from last, and though the number of girls out for volleyball is down this season, head coach Jana Surrat said the expectations for her pro- gram are still high. That’s in part because of the seniors, and because of the strong summer workouts. Surrat said the Falcons turned out well for summer workouts, and they’ve got a good group of girls playing this season. They will, however, be mov- ing to the West-side of the North Iowa Cedar League, joining the likes of Dike-New Hartford and Sumner-Fredericksburg.
