International Journal of Scientific & Engineering Research, Volume 4, Issue 9, September-2013 243 ISSN 2229-5518 Howrah Bridge and Second Hooghly Bridge: A Comprehensive Comparative Study 1Arnab Chakraborty, 2Ritaja Ray Abstract: The Howrah Bridge and Second Hooghly Bridge has been serving the city of Kolkata in conjunction with each other by allowing the city to be well connected with the rest of the state and indeed the rest of the country. The bridges by themselves, the former being of balanced- cantilever form and the latter being cable-stayed, are marvels of bridge engineering with each being built in very different eras with tremendous variation in the technology that had been employed, all to serve the one purpose of improving communication and traffic conditions by releasing some of the volume exerted on each due to daily movement. The main issue of this research is to make a comparative review of the two bridges, mainly from strict technical points of views and also from the social and economic factors that arise out of them. The structural configurations, foundation characteristics, construction techniques and maintenance issues have been extensively discussed. Relevant statistical facts relating to traffic volume on the bridges and illustrations have been provided as and when required to verify some of the facts that has been discussed. Rude , first for the financial crisis we had to face. We search hard to resolve it but do not know yet how to do it. There is no solution-miracle. But everyone is invited to reflect on the possible measures to face it and find remedy. The main source of income for our programs was the sponsorships for the children of the home and of our schools. So let us first reflect on the meaning of partnership and the responsibility it involves from both side of the partnership. HSP has to think that we cannot receive funds collected with hardship by our cooperators without searching how to correspond in the best manner to the expectation of our partners. A donation is a responsibility. We have not only to serve the children entrusted to our care with a constant renewed concern for the betterment of this service. But we have also the responsibility to see whether there is not in our hands some possibility first to cut expenses, not at the detriment of the children, of course. We had to check up the expenses of our schools, attract some local donors who can give copy books, uniforms and even some food for our homes.

M A R K E T B E AT KOLKATA Residential Q4 2019 Healthy launch activity in Q4 headlined by well-known developers >3,540 NEW UNIT LAUNCHES (Q4 2019) The city’s residential market witnessed a healthy growth in launches during the last quarter of the year with reputed developers leading the way. The sector recorded 3,542 unit launches in Q4, a sharp 33% q-o-q growth, with a number of affordable and mid segments projects commencing development. Established developer brands including Shriram Properties, Martin Burns and Salarpuria & Signum launched their projects - 29% Y-O-Y INCREASE IN TOTAL UNIT Sunshine One, Martin Jeevanam Phase 1 and Suncrest Estate Phase 1 respectively. However, the market continues to remain difficult for smaller LAUNCHES (2018-2019) developers due to the sizeable unsold inventory levels amid an ongoing sales slump along with the credit squeeze threatening to derail ongoing construction activity.
