Aportaciones taxonómicas sobre el género Epilobium que son consecuencia de la revisión lle- vada a cabo para producir una síntesis genérica destinada a Flora iberica. En particular, se acla- ran nombres tales como E. mutabile Boiss. & Reut., E. carpetanum Willk., E. psilotum Maire & Samuelsson o E. salcedoi Vicioso, así como varios creados por Sennen (E. barcinonense, E. gredillae, E. losae, E. rigatum, E. barnadesianum, E. debile, E. costeanum) y por Merino (£. maciae, E. simulans, E. tudense y E. lucense). Asimismo, se discute en detalle el problema de E. lamyi F.W. Schultz; en especial, se aclara el uso de dicho nombre por parte de botánicos que han trabajado en España y Portugal, y se rechazan las citas peninsulares del mismo. Se explican algunos problemas taxonómicos derivados de la variabilidad morfológica que exhiben E. duriaei, E. montanum, E. lanceolatum, E. collinum, E. tetragonum subsp. tournefortii y E. obscurum. The flowers are excellent for cutting. It has forest green foliage throughout the season. The serrated oval leaves do not develop any appreciable fall color. The fruit is not ornamentally significant. Landscape Attributes Fuchsia Glow Hydrangea is a multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with a more or less rounded form. Its relatively coarse texture can be used to stand it apart from other landscape plants with finer foliage. This shrub will require occasional maintenance and upkeep, and should only be pruned after flowering to avoid removing any of the current season's flowers. It has no significant negative characteristics. Rare Plants of Louisiana Agalinis filicaulis - purple false-foxglove Figwort Family (Scrophulariaceae) Rarity Rank: S2/G3G4 Range: AL, FL, LA, MS Recognition: Photo by John Hays • Short annual, 10 to 50 cm tall, with stems finely wiry, spindly • Stems simple to few-branched • Leaves opposite, scale-like, about 1mm long, barely perceptible to the unaided eye • Flowers few in number, mostly born singly or in pairs from the highest node of a branchlet • Pedicels filiform, 5 to 10 mm long, subtending bracts minute • Calyx 2 mm long, lobes short-deltoid, with broad shallow sinuses between lobes • Corolla lavender-pink, without lines or spots within, 10 to 13 mm long, exterior glabrous • Capsule globe-like, nearly half exerted from calyx Flowering Time: September to November Light Requirement: Full sun to partial shade Wetland Indicator Status: FAC – similar likelihood of occurring in both wetlands and non-wetlands Habitat: Wet longleaf pine flatwoods savannahs and hillside seepage bogs. Infloresences borne in upper third of stem, with one flower per leaf axil. Flowers erect up to 10 mm diameter; ovaries erect or outwardly falcate, 30‒50 mm long, densely strigulose, dull green-green or maroon, borne on a pedicel 4‒20 mm long. Plant Species to AVOID for Landscaping, Revegetation, and Restoration Colorado Native Plant Society Revised by the Horticulture and Restoration Committee, May, 2002 The plants listed below are invasive exotic species which threaten or potentially threaten natural areas, agricultural lands, and gardens. This is a working list of species which have escaped from landscaping, reclamation projects, and agricultural activity. All problem plants may not be included; contact the Colorado Dept. of Agriculture for more information (see references below). Some drought resistent, well adapted exotic plants suggested for landscaping survive successfully outside cultivation. If you are unsure about introducing a new plant into your garden or reclamation/restoration plans, maintain a conservative approach. Try to research a new plant thoroughly before using it, or omit it from your plans. While there are thousands of introduced plants which pose no threats, there are some that become invasive, displacing and outcompeting native vegetation, and cost land managers time and money to deal with. If you introduce a plant and notice it becoming aggressive and invasive, remove it and report your experience to us, your county extension agent, and the grower. Citrus Trees Grow Very Well in the Sacramento Valley!
Citrus! Citrus trees grow very well in the Sacramento Valley! They are evergreen trees or large shrubs, with wonderfully fragrant flowers and showy fruit in winter. There are varieties that ripen in nearly every season. Citrus prefer deep, infrequent waterings, regular fertilizer applications, and may need protection from freezing weather. We usually sell citrus on rootstocks that make them grow more slowly, so we like to call them "semi-dwarf". We can also special-order most varieties on rootstocks that allow them to grow larger. Citrus size can be controlled by pruning. The following citrus varieties are available from the Redwood Barn Nursery, and are recommended for our area unless otherwise noted in the description. Oranges Robertson Navel Best selling winter-ripening variety. Early and heavy bearing. Cultivar of Washington Navel. Washington Navel California's famous winter-ripening variety. Fruit ripens in ten months. Jaffa (Shamouti) Fabled orange from Middle East. Very few seeds. spring to summer ripening. Good flavor. Trovita Spring ripening. Good in many locations from coastal areas to desert. Few seeds, heavy producer, excellent flavor. Valencia Summer-ripening orange for juicing or eating. Fifteen months to ripen. Grow your own orange juice. Seville Essential for authentic English marmalade. Used fresh or dried in Middle Eastern cooking. Moro Deep blood coloration, almost purple-red, even in California coastal areas. Very productive, early maturity, distinctive aroma, exotic berry-like flavor. Sanquinella A deep blood red juice and rind. Tart, spicy flavor. Stores well on tree. Mandarins / Tangerines Dancy The best-known Mandarin type. On fruit stands at Christmas time.
