RESTRICTED USE MOKELUMNE WILDERNESS AREA

Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.S0(a), and to provide for public safety and protect natural resources, the following acts are prohibited within the Mokelumne Wilderness Area, the Management Area, the Round Top Special lntere~t Area, and the Salt Springs Reservoir Area. This Order is effective fi-om December 30, 2020, through December 29, 2022.

I. Camping within the Mokelumne Wilderness Area any time of the year without a valid wilderness permit. 36 CFR 261.58(e).

Camping with.in 100 feerofany stream, lake, or designated trail in the Mokelumne Wilderness Area. 36 CFR 261.SS(e).

I 3. Disposing of bodily waste and wash water waste within 200 feet of any water source. 36 CFR 261 .57(g).

4. Entering or being in the Mokelumne Wilderness as part of a group that includes more than 12 persons per group for day use or eight persons per group for overnight use. 36 CFR 26 1.SS(t).

5. Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire in the fo llowing areas:

a. Above 8,000 feet within the Mokelumne Wilderness Area and in the entire Carson Pass Management Area, as shown on Exhibit A. b. From the high-water line on the north shore of Salt Springs Reservoir up to 4,600 feet in elevation, as shown on Exhibit 8 . 36 CFR 26 l.52(a).

6. Tying pack and saddle stock to trees or within 200 feet of lakes, streams, trail s, and campsites except whi le loading and unloading. 36 CFR 26 I .57(e).

7. Grazing a horse or other saddle or pack animal within the Round Top Special Interest Area, as shown on Exhibit C. 36 CFR 26 I .57(e).

8. Possessing animals as described below:

a. Riding or allowing a horse or other saddle or pack animal off National Forest System trails within the Round Top Special l.nterest Area, as shown on Exhibit C. b. Possessing more than 12 horses or other sadd le or pack animals per group within the Mokelumne Wilderness Area. c. Possessing any dog not on a leash in the Carson Pass Management Area, as .shown on Exhibit D. 36 CFR 261 .58(s).

- ·------9. Camping in the areas listed below and shown on Exhibit D:

a. Outside of a designated camping site in the Carson Pass Management Area from Memorial Day to Labor Day. b. Within 300 feet of Emigrant Lake, except when there is snow on the ground. c. Camping within ¼ mile of Frog Lake. d. Within a designated camping site at Winnemucca and Round Top Lakes for more than two nights. e. Within a designated camping site at the Fourth of July Lake area for more than three nights. ' 36 CFR 261.58(e).

Pursuant to 36 CFR 26 I .50(e). the following persons are exempt from this Order:

1. Persons with a Forest Pem1it for Use of Roads, Trails. or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order, Form FS-7700-48. specifically exempting them from this Order. Persons with a valid Campfire Permit are not exempt from the prohibitions listed above. However. persons with a valid Wilderness Permit may use portable stoves or lanterns that use gas, jellied petroleum, solid fuel tablets, or pressurized liquid fuel above 8.000 feet within the Mokelumne Wilderness Area. as shown on Exhibit A and in from the high-water line on the north shore of Salt Springs Reservoir up to 4.600 feet in elevation. as shown on Exhibit B.

2. Any Federal. State, or local officer. or member ofan organized rescue or fire lighting force in the performance ofan official duty.

These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 CFR Part 261 , Subpart A.

A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a tine of not more than $5.000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both. 16 USC 551 and 18 USC 3559. 3571 and 3581.
