You can see that the infection rate is coming down in Newton Heath, but it is now above the national average. There is now ‘community surge testing’ in Moston and Harpurhey as the authorities have discovered a mutation of the Kent variant in these areas. The boundary for the households included in the testing is only just over Oldham Road, so please continue to social distance.
The results from the School Infection Survey so far show that the vast majority of people in school did not have antibodies in November. In fact, we have only found one person so far who had antibodies and did not know they had previously had COVID-19.
Lent
As we are now in the period of Lent, I wanted to share with you an idea of doing something to share some kindness each day. We often think about giving things up during Lent as Christians but giving a little kindness makes the world of diference in these difcult times we fnd ourselves in and give others hope and joy as well as ourselves.
Please fnd attached 40 ideas of how we can do something positive each day and make a world of diference. Please encourage your children to have a go and spread some kindness and care this Lent.
Thank you.

Keeping Going
Welcome back. I It can be easy to worry too much about the future, and predict hope everyone had a worse case situations. I think it is worthwhile at this point to restful week of. look back on what we have achieved together.
I will be doing This time last year we were making preparations for a possible assembly from home closure of the school, which actually came a few weeks later on Monday, as the in March. So, over the last 12 months here are just some of COVID-19 app the steps we have all taken together: pinged last • ‘Adventure Club’ for some children weekend, and I have to self-isolate • Wrestling with Edenred vouchers until Monday evening. So, I’ve been • Starting up Google Classroom building Thomas and Friends railways • Arbor Parent Portal with my little boy and catching up on • Class email accounts jobs in the garden (with the odd nap). • Remote learning • Reopening school to more children in Summer 2020 I think it is safe to say that this half • Full reopening in September with ‘bubbles’ and term will have its challenges, as we staggered starts/fnishes etc expect to reopen to all pupils. Monday 22nd February is the announcement • New learning platforms, including myON and Bug date, but I think it is very likely that Club reopening will be March 8th. • Virtual class assemblies, services and nativity • Google forms So our task is to fnish remote learning • Ofsted visit well, and prepare for a calm transition • School Infection Survey back to all children in school. After • Bubble closures that, we will be assessing the children • Meal parcels, learning pack deliveries, devices etc so we can support them in moving • Remote learning 2 forward in key areas of learning. • Live assemblies and class meetings
It is likely that bubble closures will still All of these (and more) could not have been achieved without occur, so please continue to follow our a team efort of staf, governors, other organisations, children risk assessment and local rules. and families. Step-by-step, everyone has supported each other and put their best foot forward. See you on Monday (on screen). Head Teacher With the tiredness of the last year, and the possible fnish line in sight, it can be hard to keep going and give the same efort again. So, we must keep focusing on the things in front of us, one step at a time, and together. Then, one day we will look up and the storm will have passed.

In the Christian calendar, February 17 marks the start of the season of Lent which lasts for 40 days. Lots of people aim to do something positive on each of those 40 days. Here are some ideas, in no particular order – why not give it a try on your own or with your family. Inspired by 40 Acts https://40acts.org.uk/
Give somebody a compliment today
Send a letter, card or picture to someone who is important to you
Be the first to say sorry to somebody
Go the whole day without arguing with anyone
Turn off lights, TV and chargers when you leave a room
Call a grandparent or uncle, or little cousin.
If someone does something for you, make sure you say ‘thank you
Drink more water - when you’re healthy and energetic, it is much easier to be kind.
Create a Giving Bag or Box. Add items to it that you are willing to donate to a charity shop (when you are able to)
Instead of using a vehicle to travel today, walk or cycle or scoot everywhere
Is there a way to be a good team player today? Maybe that means helping each other out with something at home
Make a card or note saying something nice about someone in your household and hide it in a place that they will find it
Pick up litter and put it in the bin – if you are doing this on a walk, check it’s safe to pick it up
Start telling jokes, watch something fun together, or whatever makes you laugh!
Be brave today. Do something that you found hard last time you tried
Take 10 minutes to just sit quietly and relax doing nothing.
Be spontaneous! Sometimes, random acts of kindness just come to you in the moment! What will you think of today?
Ask somebody to tell you about themselves and really listen
Learn to say ‘hello’ and ‘thank you’ in some different languages
Surprise somebody (in a nice way!) today

Tell somebody why you think they are special
Try not to interrupt. Listen carefully, you may learn something new
Try to find out about somebody your own age from a different country and imagine what it would be like to swap lives
Make a point of connecting with someone of a different generation today.
Help someone realise how amazing they are today
Recycle any paper, plastic, tins or glass that you use today
After lessons or work try for some screen free time of two hours or more - no Facebook, no apps, no phone calls, tv or games
Make an extra effort to smile more at others – it really can bring joy to their day!
Today might be a good time to make that apology you owe someone
Tidy up your bedroom without being asked to
Make sure to exercise - taking care of your body is important
Write down 5 things you are thankful and tell someone about it
Say sorry first, even if it wasn’t your fault
Ask other people in your household if there is any job/task you can help them with today
Be positive all day and try only to say encouraging things to other people.
Create an encouragement jar - write some encouraging messages on slips of paper, place them in a jar and then people in your household can take it in turns on different days to take one from the jar
Make a present for someone out of scrap you can find. For example, a hanging mobile or collage picture
Got a favourite book or film with a positive message? Tell someone about it and think about are how you can live out that message
Be spontaneous! Sometimes, random acts of kindness just come to you in the moment! What will you think of today?
Think before you speak and make sure your words build people up today

Worship 2 Go Drawing School and Home Together Thanks to all those people who have made some of the resources collated here available to share Simeon and Anna
Bible Reading
Simeon and Anna were very old and were waiting to see the rescuer of God’s people. They spent lots of time in the temple. One day, they met Jesus when Mary and Joseph brought him to the temple 40 days after he was born. Simeon took Jesus in his arms, praising God for the child who he recognised as the light of the world. Anna, also began thanking God for Jesus and told lots of other people about him.
You can find this in the Bible, in the book of Luke , chapter 2, verse 25-38
Younger children might enjoy this video https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zmjxn39
On February 2 we remember that Simeon and Anna met Jesus . This season is also called Candlemas because sometimes in churches, a blessing is prayed over the candles which will be used in the church over the year as a symbol of the light Jesus brings into the world. It’s a great time of year to think about finding light wherever we can.
Prayer Wondering Dear God, I wonder if you are good at waiting thank you for the example of Simeon and I wonder if you are waiting for Anna who waited and trusted in you. Please something special help each of us to do the same and to bring I wonder where you could bring light to your light to others in this world. Amen the world
Creative Prayer 1 ≈ CD - reflect the light of Jesus You will need an old CD or DVD (everyone should check with each other that it really is done with!) or you can use foil stuck to a circle of card; pieces of string or yarn; felt tips; a torch or other light source.
Jesus was the one who came to bring light to the dark places of the world- to help people to feel less afraid and to give them hope. This is what Simeon saw in the baby Jesus who Mary and Joseph had brought to the temple. I wonder if you can think of ways we might be able to do this too? Take a CD and draw or write on the shiny side, patterns or things that represent you but leave some of the shiny side visible! Hang the CD from thread or yarn and shine torches or lamps onto the shiny side. Watch the reflection projected onto the wall or ceiling. Pray you will be able to reflect the light of Jesus in the world, especially in this time of waiting.

Creative Prayer 1 ≈ Rainfall Reflection Prayers Simeon and Anna patiently waited a long time to see Jesus as a baby. While they waited they thought about God’s word and prayed. How good are you at being patient and waiting? At the moment we are all waiting for something - use this prayer activity to reflect on the time now and think about the things we are thankful for, the things we are sorry for and what we need God’s help with. For this prayer activity you will need a cup, mug or plastic cup. If it is very rainy you could even use a bucket. When it starts to rain, put your container outside in a good place to catch the falling rain. Then wait patiently for it to fill, how long do you think it will take? Set times to go and check your container, to see how full it is. As you look at the water in the container, talk to God and reflect on the things you are thankful for, sorry for and would like to ask God’s help with. When the container is full, take a moment think about what you have said in this time of waiting, then pour the water away letting your prayers flow to God.
Activity 2 ≈ Jump for joy
Anna and Simeon were very happy to see Jesus after waiting so long—it was years and years! Here's a game you can play. You need at least one other person to play it with. Pick a start and end spot. For example, on a walk you might pick from one lamppost to the next or if you are in your yard, the backdoor to the fence. Stand in a line on the starting point and someone is chosen be the leader. When the leader shouts ’Joy’, with both feet together, make a jump forward. If the leader shouts ’Wait’, just stand still. The winner is the person who gets to the end point first. Then someone else can be the leader. Have fun!
Activity 2 ≈ Shadow drawings
You will need paper and a pencil; felt tips or paints. Set yourself up near a light source which can make shadows – this might be through a patterned curtain or by setting an object in front of a window. The aim is to set the paper in a place where a shadow falls onto it. Trace the light and shadow shapes with a pencil or pen and then colour them in if you would like to.
Do you get interesting shapes? Does it look like the object? Does it remind you of any other style of art?
If there is a sunny day and you have some chalk, you might be able to go outside and trace the shadow of your body on the pavement.
Fact of the week
Sunlight is made up of different colours but blue light is scattered more than other colours because it travels as shorter, smaller waves. This is why the sky looks blue.
