Friday Flyer – 13th July 2018

Alice - The Musical What a simply amazing performance given by our children in Years 2-6! It was wonderful to see the children and staff work so hard as a team to put on such an incredible show. The production allowed the children to shine in areas which we don’t always see in school; acting and dancing and singing, prop making, costume design, working sound equipment as well as developing the skills of teamwork, collaboration and leadership. St James’ School is very fortunate to have such a dedicated and hardworking team. Photos from the production are on the front page of the school website.

Reports and Questionnaires Parents should all have received children’s reports. We do not hold a formal parent consultation evening in the summer term, but parents are welcome to talk to the teachers about their child’s progress and the report after school without an appointment. Enclosed with the reports is a feedback form which we would urge parents and children to complete and there is also a questionnaire about how parents feel the school is doing. We do use responses, both positive and critical to help us write our school development plan; please complete the report feedback form and questionnaire and return to the school office by the end of the term.

Open Afternoon On Thursday 19th July, the school will be holding an open afternoon where children’s work from the year will be exhibited in the hall and the classrooms. This is an opportunity for parents, prospective parents, relatives and the local community to visit every class, meet all the staff and see what all the children have been doing throughout the school over the year. There will be Forest School activities and refreshments outside. The children are very keen for as many people to see their work as possible, so please do come and visit us between 1:30-4pm.

The children will be bringing their work home on Friday 20th July – please can you provide your child with a carrier bag.

Joint Activity Day at Amberley School The children had a very active day at Amberley on Tuesday 3rd July experiencing a range of sporting activities including tennis, athletics, football rounders and orienteering.

Parking and driving in Church Lane The school have received a number of complaints from our neighbours over the last few weeks regarding inconsiderate parking and driving in Church Lane. Parents are asked to park in Arun Vale or in Sandham Hall Car Park and walk up the lane to drop and collect their children. Please respect this request and also be considerate to the needs of our neighbours.

Year 6 Leavers’ Service There will be a Leavers’ Service in St Giles’ Church starting at 2:45pm on Tuesday 24th July. All parents are warmly welcomed to join us, not just parents of children who are leaving.

Caretaker Required – CAN YOU HELP? We have not been successful in recruiting a caretaker. During the summer holidays a deep clean of the school is always carried out and unless we are able to fill this role, we will have to use contract cleaners. If you, or anyone you know is interested in the position, either permanently or temporarily over the summer holidays, please do let the office know. The hours are 17.5 hours / week, 52 weeks of the year and in the summer holidays, the hours can be done in a block.

Legacy Money The legacy committee are hoping to share their plans with parents and the community before we break for the summer term holidays.

Painting the school hall The school hall is looking a bit shabby and is in need of a coat of paint. Are you able to spare some hours over the summer holidays to help us paint it?

Tesco Tokens Amberley School are currently one of the three nominated groups bidding for the Tesco Bags of Help grant. I know parents at Amberley were very proactive in supporting both St James’ and Chuckleberries during their bids so, during July and August, if you are in Tescos in Pulborough, and , please ask for as many tokens as you can and put them in Amberley’s box! Thank you!
