City Manager’s Message

With California now fully reopened as of June 15, I’m pleased to finally be able to say that we are in the last stages of transitioning out of the COVID-19 environment. The State as a whole has continued to see reduced cases as more residents received the vaccine. This decrease in numbers across the board only proves the success that we have achieved together not just as a state, but more importantly as a city and community here in Aliso Viejo.

An integral part of the national COVID-19 response effort was the Soka University Super POD, which closed on June 6 due to the decrease in demand for the vaccine. I can’t stress enough how pleased and grateful I am that our residents, city staff, and partners all came together to make this massive undertaking a great success. Over the course of a little over four months, the Soka site helped disperse more than 296,594 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, and was the only County of Orange Super POD that had been in continuous operation since the day it opened. As a reminder, residents can still schedule vaccine appointments through the Othena. com platform or find vaccine providers by visiting vaccines.gov.

This gradual return to normal has allowed everyday activities and all businesses to resume operations with general risk-reduction measures, which is great news for the upcoming events that we have planned for you through the end of the year.

As a quick preview of what’s to come, City staff has been working hard on many exciting activities that residents of all ages can enjoy, including our annual pet fair and holiday events. This fall, we will be hosting our popular Pop-Up Pumpkin Patch at the new Aliso Viejo Ranch, but there’s only one way to hear about it – by following us on social media. Be sure to follow the City on Facebook (@AVCityOfficial), Twitter (@alisoviejocity), and Instagram (@cityofalisoviejo) to get the latest updates on events and other important news.
