Advanced Hair Restoration of

Pre-operative Instructions

1. Wash your hair with shampoo the morning of your procedure. Do not use any hair spray, moose or other products on your hair after washing. 2. Eat something prior to your procedure. You will be able to have a light snack during the procedure, if you like, but it is nice to start out with something on your stomach. 3. Do not drink alcoholic beverages 24 hours prior to your procedure. 4. Do not take aspirin, aspirin containing products or other blood thinning medications for 7 days prior to your procedure. 5. Do not shave or cut your hair on the sides or back (donor site) of your scalp prior to your procedure. It is better to have your hair 1” or longer on the sides and back to hide the donor site suture line. Do not cut or shave the top or crown (recipient site) of your scalp prior to the procedure. We are able to work around your existing hair as we place your newly transplanted grafts. Your existing hair will work well to camouflage the newly transplanted grafts until they heal. 6. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes for the procedure. Wear a shirt that you don’t mind getting dirty and can easily wash after the procedure. 7. You must have someone drop you off and pick you up from the clinic for your procedure. It is against Federal Law for a patient to leave the medical facility and operate a vehicle after being sedated. 8. Many times we will place a turban style head dressing after the procedure that will be left in place for the first night. After it is removed, a hat can be worn if you chose. Usually an adjustable baseball cap works the best. Do not wear stocking style caps as this can dislodge the grafts causing them to fall out and fail. 9. Please leave your cell phone with the nurse and place the ringer in the silent position. Make arrangements for you to be “off line” for a few hours while your procedure is being done. It is difficult to text or answer calls during the procedure. 10. Notify us of any allergies to medications. We use local anesthetic like that used at the dentist office. If you have had any bad reactions to local anesthetic please inform us immediately. We also use an oral sedative called Valium. It is generally well tolerated by most patients. Please inform us if you have had a bad reaction to Valium or other sedative type medications. 11. Notify us of your current medications. We will discuss medications at your consultation and inform you of any changes for the day of your procedure. Generally, we will have you take your medications as prescribed on the day of your procedure with the exception of blood thinning medications which will be held for 7 days prior. 12. The duration of the procedure will depend upon the number of grafts you are receiving. Generally, 1500-2000 grafts will take 4-5 hours from start to finish. 13. Please leave contact information for the person picking you up with our staff. We will contact them 30 min prior to the completion of your procedure so they can return to pick you up. 14. Please contact us promptly should you be running late or need to reschedule your procedure.
