DENVER BRONCOS OTA QUOTES (5/21/12)

CORNERBACK CHAMP BAILEY

On QB “It feels good to know he’s going to be on my side. What I saw today, he’s going to give us some good work. We might not see a like that all year. It’s going to be something that’s going to get us prepared for games.”

On whether practicing against him requires extra energy “Mentally, yeah. You’ve got to be on your game mentally, because he knows what [defense] you’re in for the most part. It’s just about playing the right technique and things like that, kind of getting the guys around you to tip us off to what they might be doing offensively.”

On the wide receivers “This was definitely one of the most intense first days of OTAs that I’ve had in a while. It felt good. I love to see those guys running as hard as they have. I know they’re going to be ready to go.”

On the secondary “I miss the guys that were here, but the good thing is we replaced them with some really good players. To have [CB] Drayton Florence, his experience, and [CB] Tracy Porter, it’s a good feeling because I know I’m surrounded by a great group of guys.”

On S Mike Adams “He’s one of those guys, he’s sharp, he knows his stuff. That’s really what you want from your safeties—to know their stuff and to come out there and kind of get you lined up right. I don’t need it, for the most part, but when I do, I want to be able to lean on somebody.”

On whether he can tell Manning missed a season “Absolutely not. It’s not live, but from what I see right now, the guy hasn’t missed a beat. I knew it just watching him before the OTAs started that he was going to look good this week.”

On Manning missing a season “I can only imagine what it felt like sitting down a year. Me, personally, I haven’t sat out a year of football since I was 8 years old. For him to sit out, as much as he loves the game, I can only imagine what he went through.”

On what it would feel like to miss a season “I don’t know. It would kill me. I don’t know. I haven’t done it, so I wouldn’t know how to handle that.”

On receivers improving “I think they’re on their way. Obviously I want to help them as much as possible, try to sharpen their routes up, things like that. One thing about them, if they get open a little bit, they’re open a lot to [Manning]. That’s one thing that’s a big difference this year.”

On practicing against Manning compared to previous teammates Jay Cutler or “I love those guys, but they’re not Peyton Manning. His track record speaks for itself. It looks like he’s picking up right where he left off.”
