Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. On behalf of General Motors, I want to thank you for joining us. I want to offer a special welcome to our guests who have come from the U.K. and the U.S.
I’m sure many of you are wondering why we choose Shanghai and China to make our announcement? First, this is a global hotbed of football. Certainly no football club is more popular among local fans than the legendary Manchester United.
Second, this is GM’s largest market and the number two market for Chevrolet, our most popular brand. Since Shanghai GM introduced Chevrolet seven years ago, no major brand in China has grown as fast. In fact, just last month, SGM sold its 2 millionth Chevrolet.
With a lineup that ranges from our Chevrolet Sail small family car to the stylish Malibu sedan to the revolutionary Volt electric vehicle, it’s easy to see why it has become so popular. Chevrolet is associated with youth, fun and excitement. Just like Manchester United.
Today’s agreement will give Chevrolet and Manchester United a great platform for growing together – in Shanghai, across China and around the world. We look forward to working with our new partner and to brightening lives around the world by sharing the joy of the “beautiful game.”
