As chair of the Dormanstown NAP I am writing on behalf of the Dormanstown residents. We had a meeting on the 28.3.18 to discuss the proposal. Dormanstown is one of the most deprived wards within and Cleveland council, The residents feel as though a reduction of the number of councillors is a way of depriving the ward even further. Many of the residents who live over the rd of Lane have always lived in the Dormanstown area. With your proposed boundaries residents will now live in the Newcomen ward. why was it proposed to move the boundaries in such a way when following the road would have been so much easier. Dormanstown recently celebrated 100years since the first homes were built. Dormanstown was built for the families and workers of the Dormans long Steel work. Later to become British Steel. To remove such as the industry which has always been part of the heritage of the ward. Also with new developments which are planned on the new site of the mayors development corporation. I presume there will be some section 106 money attached. In the past this money has always been attached to the ward in which the money sits in. This means yet again the ward which sees deprivation increasing suffering even more, as improvements which are desperately needed and wanted can not happen. Austerity is only increasing so funds which each councillor receive are much needed for the many community groups within the ward. If the proposal goes ahead then there is 8k removed from there reach straight away. 106 money will not be available to the ward so where can small community groups go for a quick win fundraiser. Residents feel like yet again another kick once there down. Each councillor is involved in many of the community groups be it helping, advice or funding. We have a strong relationship with the community groups. If the boundary changes then these groups loose relationships which have been built up over years of hard work and support. Some of these groups will find themselves having to build new relationships. The NAP each year choose 3 priorities, one of which has remained a priority for over 3 years is flooding. Flooding is an on going issue for Dormanstownwith a lot of the work been done on the old SSI site which was. The issue with a lot of the wards flooding sits in the new mayors development corporation . If this is now in the south bank ward it means lots of back and forth and hard work to try and resolve it. Dormanstown maybe a deprived ward yet it’s community is strong, working together to do lots for the people of the ward and beyond. Friends of Locke park work very hard to help maintain the park working with council other groups and residents. Ladies f steel hold event throughout the years at a very low cost, Redcar town F.C. have a variety of ages and teams, Friends of Westfield farm hold regular coffee mornings and since the 100 yrs celebrations they have kept the momentum up and are hold further events this year. Dormanstown cricket club is the longest running sports club in Dormanstown. These are just snippets of what our community groups do. None of which would be available without the support of funds from the 3 ward councillors. The residents agreed at the meeting that both yearly and Kirkleatham village should and do belong to the Kirkleatham ward. They would like to see the industry back in the Dormanstown ward where it belongs and Mersey rd as these residents have lived in Dormanstown all there life and want to remain within the ward. This also keeps the schools in the ward which have always been in. With all the above mentioned I ask please don’t make Dormanstown a forgotten area of decline and deprivation.
