Coach Frank Beamer Two-Time Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year Enters His 20th Year at the Helm of the Hokies Virginia Tech couldn’t have asked for anyone better than Frank Beamer to guide its football programprogram intointo thethe AtlanticAtlantic Coast Conference. In each of the Hokies’ fi rst two seasons in their new league, Beamer has been named coach of the year. Last season, he guided Virginia Tech to an 11-2 record, the ACC Coastal Division title, a spot in the inaugural league championship game and the Hokies’ 13th-straight bowl game. Beamer, who was the consensus national coach of the year in 1999, may have done his best coaching job in 2004, guiding a young Tech team that was picked to fi nish sixth in the ACC to a league title and a BCS Bowl. The team also won the league’s 2004 Fall Sportsmanship Award for football, yet another tribute to the program Beamer and his staff have built. When Beamer accepted the job as head football coach at his alma mater in 1987, his goal was for the Virginia Tech football program to reach a consistent level of excellence. The Walter Camp Coach of the Year is selected by the nation’s 125 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors. Cutcliffe is the first Duke coach to receive the award, and the first honoree from the ACC since 2001 (Ralph Friedgen, Maryland). Under Cutcliffe’s direction, the 20th-ranked Blue Devils have set a school record with 10 victories and earned their first-ever berth in the Dr. Pepper ACC Championship Game. Duke clinched the Coastal Division title and championship game berth with a 27-25 victory over in-state rival North Carolina on November 30. Duke (10-2, 6-2 in the Coastal Division) will face top-ranked Florida State (12-0) on Saturday, December 7 in Charlotte, N.C. The Blue Devils enter the game with an eight-game winning streak – the program’s longest since 1941. In addition, the Blue Devils cracked the BCS standings for the first time this season, and were a perfect 4-0 in the month of November (after going 1-19 in the month from 2008 to 2012). Cutcliffe was hired as Duke’s 21st coach on December 15, 2007. Last season, he led the high- scoring Blue Devils to a school record 410 points (31.5 points per game) and a berth in the Belk Bowl – the program’s first bowl appearance since 1994.

The AAU has dedicated itself to proudly offer many different amateur sports and fitness programs available to people of all ages. Initially, the AAU was prominent as a federation for US representation in international competition. It also provided a means for athletes to prepare for the Olympic games. Upon the passing of the Amateur Sports Act of 1978, the AAU focused on the advance- ment of the organization to as many people as they could. Today, the AAU boasts over 500,000 participants and 50,000 volunteers of all ages. There are 56 Districts that comprise the organization and sanction over 34 sports programs, 250 national champi- onships, and more than 30,000 age division events annually. The AAU was established on January 1, 1888, because some members of the National Association of Amateur Athletes (NAAAA) decided that there needed to be a new or- ganization that created standards and uniformity in amateur sport. After composing a constitution and bylaws, 14 charter club members named Harry McMillan the organiza- tion’s first President.
