Module Overview

Accessories are a significant and important part of the fashion industry. Accessories made for the fashion catwalk can alter the mood of a show dramatically. This elective offers a chance to communicate, develop and build in 3D. Exploring everyday, decorative and industrial materials to achieve a performative (storytelling) accessory, the purpose of this course is to develop a new relationship with the body and expand the definition of .

Working from a concept developed in the first session, an idea will evolve through comprehensive research and extended 3D design development, resulting in a well- executed ‘prototype’ of the final outcome.

Aims

• To develop ‘on the body’ 3D concepts • Research & design through sketching and 3D experimentation • Re-enter sketchbook to achieve alternative outcomes • Challenging perceptions of & accessories.

Learning Outcomes

Materials Required • A3 Landscape sketchbook • mix-media art materials, scissors, camera. • You will be asked to resource a diverse quantity of ‘prototyping’ materials (e.g.: cardboard-plasticine-rope-washers-glass-washers-electronic components) Note: you will be instructed on the first session what to bring for week 2

Elective Sessions: Week 4-10 (commencing week of 24th September 2018)

Tutor: Ben Nash Ben Nash is a freelance designer, photographer and stylist. He has a strong 20 year background in graphic design and screen printing for the fashion industry. A fascination with led him to a design and making degree at London College of Fashion Cordwainers. His graphic skills, passion and intrigue for intelligent research opened up a new world of structurally bold and playful footwear. He has worked on projects ranging from window set design and construction for world class brands, miniature set design and modelling for greetings cards, through to fashion design/conceptualisation and virtual architecture for the video game industry.
