My family and I will be living in Willmar this spring and look forward to being part of this active and vibrant community.

My name is Ike Holland and I will be the new City Administrator for the City of Willmar beginning this spring. I have been serving in leadership positions in local government for over 16 years, serving in Missouri and Colorado for most of that time. Born and raised a Jayhawk, I graduated from the University of Kansas and received e Ike Holland Family my Master’s Degree from the University of Colorado. Prior to serving in local government I was an officer in the US Army. My wife’s name is Leslie and we are proud parents of five children, two girls and three boys. One is a freshman at the University of at Morris and ran on the Cross Country team this past fall. My youngest daughter will be a freshman at Morris this fall of 2017. While raising our children, we introduced them to numerous sports and outdoor activities. In Colorado, the winter sports and hiking were favorites of everyone in the family. As I look at the numerous programs and activities offered in this community, it tells me a lot about the priorities of life for those who live here. Sports are part of life that brings tremendous joy to those who participate, those who coach, and those who enjoy the pleasure of watching competition and sports - manship. I know your Willmar City Council is in full support of recreation and parks in this community and I will put it as a priority for myself as well. In conclusion, I plan to participate in this community in areas of civic organizations, education, recreation, religious, business development, and non-profit programming. My wife and I will be an advocate for vol - unteers and civic pride that every community needs to have in order to be successful. ank you for this opportunity to serve the Council, City and community. Believe me, it will not be taken for granted but rather truly appreciated.

Kind Regards, Ike Holland

“Deb takes a rather dull topic and makes it fun and interesting. I come back over and over.” is is just one of the many positive comments that Debi Brandt has received through the years.

Debi has been teaching monthly CPR and First Aid classes for Willmar Community Ed & Rec for nearly a decade. When asked why she does it, her reply was simple, “Because I love to share something that I’m passionate about.” Deb is also an EMT and she says that she oen heard event bystanders in an emergency situation say, “I just didn’t know what to do.” So, she decided to help people know what to do in the event of an emergency by offering CPR and First Aid classes.

Hundreds of community members have taken part in Debi’s classes throughout the years. She is always thrilled when she bumps into someone and they share a good news story about when they were able to “do that thing” that they learned in one of her classes. Debi has had so many repeat participants that she has a term that she uses for them. She calls them her “frequent flyers.” ese are the people that keep coming back for more of Debi’s real life stories and hands on fun teaching style.

ank you, Debi for sharing your passion with so many of us in the Willmar area.

Giving back and paying it forward happens in a variety

of ways. Many people have volunteered countless hours at the Willmar Community Center through the years.

However, one of them stands out. Did you know that Jim Peterson has volunteered over 33,000 hours in a variety of roles over the past 19 years?

Now that’s a lot of hours! Thank You Jim for giving back to our community by volunteering. 38 Willmar Community Education & Recreation SUMMER 2017
