Parliamentary General Election: Thursday 12th December 2019

“Elections teams up and down the country are having to respond with Audience: Schools urgency to the recent announcement that there will be a snap Parliamentary General Election on 12th December. Given the changing Purpose: Information political position over the last few months, it has been impossible to predict with certainty when such an election might have been called.

East Council’s Election Team has been working “round the clock” to secure 300 polling stations for the 12th December polls. As always, the cooperation of schools is very much appreciated.

“The combination of very short notice of the election being given, and half term, has meant that it has been very difficult for the Elections Team to make contact with schools before the deadline for the printing of poll cards, which identify polling stations. In some cases, assumptions have had to be made that there are no conflicting activities at schools which might clash with polling activity.

“Kath O’Dwyer, Cheshire East Council’s Returning Officer, thanks the schools for their continuing support in the provision of school premises for polling station use, and asks for their special help in making premises available in circumstances where there may be conflicting school-related activity.

“If colleagues from the Elections Team have not already been in contact with any school which is usually used as a polling station, please expect to be contacted in the coming days, and do all you can to ensure that polling can take place on 12th December.”
