“The BBC has given me the opportunity to grow as a person while also being able to connect with others around me through music. FINLANDIA: BE STILL MY SOUL JEAN SIBELIUS This anthem is sponsored by Paulette and Michael Molloy in honor of Hayden Molloy TENOR/BASS CHORISTERS SOLOIST: HAYDEN MOLLOY

Be still, my soul! The Lord is on thy side; Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain; Leave to thy God to order and provide; In every change He faithful will remain. Be still, my soul! Thy best, thy heavenly friend Through stormy ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul! Thy God doth undertake To guide the future as He has the past. Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake All now mysterious shall be bright at last. Be still, my soul! The waves and winds still know The Christ who ruled them while He dwelt below.

Best still, my soul! The hour is hast’ning on When we shall be forever with the Lord, When disappointment, grief and tears are gone, Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored. Be still, my soul! When change and tears are past,

All safe and blessed, we shall meet at last.

LIVE A-HUMBLE AMERICAN SPIRITUAL This anthem is sponsored by Nancy and Jack Kimberly in honor of the 2020-21 BBC Choristers and their families TENOR/BASS CHORISTERS ALUMNI TRIO: BEN DOW, DAVID MANDT, AND KEN BERG

Live a-humble, O! Live a-humble, O! Humble yourself, the bell’s a-done rung.

Just watch that sun, see how steady he runs. Don’t let him catch you with your work undone! I’m singin’ glory and honor! Praise King Jesus! Praise the Lord!

The Lord has told us what we should do! Love kindness and to do justice, too. Oh, yes! The bell’s a-done rung. What does my Lord require of me? To walk with Him in humility!

"BBC’s Life Rules from Mr. Berg will stay with me for the rest of my life. They remind us of the importance of resting and why it is important to do what is right. They all hold a valuable life lesson but life rule Number 3 is the one I keep closest to my heart.” – John Thomas Ellison, graduating senior

RESIGNATION: MY SHEPHERD SOUTHERN HARMONY This anthem is sponsored by Jacqueline Morgan in honor of Seth Scoggins SOPRANO/ALTO CHORISTERS FLUTE: BETH MOONEY SOLO: THADDEUS KRATZ

My Shepherd will supply my need, Jehovah is His Name. In pastures fresh Me makes me feed beside the living stream. He brings my wandering spirit back when I forsake His ways And leads me for His mercy’s sake in paths of truth and grace.

When I walk thru the shades of death, Thy Presence is my stay. One word of Thy supporting breath drives all my fears away. Thy hand in sight of all my foes doth still my table spread. My cup with blessings overflows, Thine oil anoints my head.

The sure provision of my God attends me all my days. O, may Thy house be my abode and all my work be praise. There would I find a settled rest while others go and come, No more a stranger, nor a guest, but like a child at home.

SET DOWN SERVANT AMERICAN SPIRITUAL TENOR/BASS CHORISTERS SOLOISTS: TREY RAYFIELD AND SAMUEL JONES

Set down, Servant! I can’t set down! My soul is so happy that I can’t set down!

My Lord, you know that you promised me a long white robe, yes! And you promised me a pair of shoes for my feet To make my worship wardrobe complete! Now you’re tellin’ me to set down!

Go yonder! Angel of mine, and fetch for me a long, white robe And some shoes so I can place them on this noisy servant of mine So he can focus on his work divine! Then maybe, he will set down, Servant!

Lord, you are worthy of praise and your Name is to be high above all! You alone are God and we are Your children whom You ransomed from the fall! That’s why we’re told to set down, Servant!

GERMANY: O GOD OF LOVE WILLIAM GARDNER This anthem is sponsored by Dr. Eleanor Stokes MIXED CHORISTER ENSEMBLE

O God of love, O King of peace, Make wars throughout the world to cease; The wrath of nations now restrain Give peace, O God, give peace again.

Remember, Lord, your works of old, The wonders that our fathers told; Remember not our sins' dark stain. Give peace, O God, give peace again.

Whom shall we trust but you, O Lord? Where rest but on your faithful word? None ever called on you in vain. Give peace, O God, give peace again.

"BBC camp is one of my most favorite memories. Mr Berg is a great leader and I have learned so much from him about singing, faith, and becoming a man. I have been richly blessed from my time in choir." – Christopher Dutton, graduating senior

JOSHUA FIT THE BATTLE! ARR. JILL GALLINA This anthem is sponsored by Christopher Tilghman in honor of Cindy and Steve Tilghman JUNIOR CHORISTERS

Thunder and lightnin’, Oh, so very frightnin’! Just like thunder and lightnin’ strikin’ all around!

There was weepin’ and cryin, there was no denyin’ that the walls of Jericho, they were a tumblin’ down. When Joshua fit the battle of Jericho And the walls they came a-tumblin’ down.

Joshua, hear the horns a-blowin’, Joshua, a fearful melody. Joshua, how could they be knowin’ That your name would soon be goin’ down in history!

SECTION III – SECULAR OCTAVOS This section is sponsored by Donna and Marc Ayers and Cecily and Brad Lowe

INTRODUCTION ANDREW GROVES, 20-21 HEAD CHORISTER

CAN YOU HEAR ME BOB CHILCOTT This anthem is sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. James M. Gillespy, III SOPRANO/ALTO CHORISTERS SIGN: JEFF CAULK

I look around me as I grow, I’d like to tell you all I know.

I see life with all its energy, the city streets, the rush of time. This is my world, it’s where I like to be, so much to see, so much to find. I sometimes sit and wait a while, I see the sun, it makes me smile.

Can you see it? Can you see it too?

I feel life with all its energy, the joy of waking ev’ry day. This is my world, it’s where I like to be, so much to do, so much to say. I sometimes sit and feel the sun, its warmth is there for ev’ry one.

Can you feel it? Can you feel it too?

My world’s a silent one, but it’s enough for me. I hear you through your hands, the movement sets me free, But it could be a special thing to hear your voice, to hear you sing.

Can you hear me? Can you hear me too?

I look around me as I grow, I’d like to tell you all I know. Can you hear me? "My time in the Birmingham Boys Choir has been an exciting time where I have not only learned about the importance of music in my life but also built a foundation and shaped my character into the young man I am." – Robert Cox, graduating senior

NOW WE WOULD LIKE TO SING KEN BERG This anthem is dedicated in honor of our 2020-21 Board of Directors SOPRANO/ALTO CHORISTERS

Now, we would like to sing a simple song, perhaps you’d like to sing along, Because we know you can’t go wrong with a song, so be strong! We learn to read our music bit by bit, so we won’t be illiterate! We all can gain the benefit of a song all day long!

We learn of rhythm and of melody by singing scales in ev’ry key And when we sing in harmony we depend on a friend. And now we slip into the minor mode to move us father down the road, You’ll note the tempo never slowed, now we’re back on the track!

Some voices sing up high and some down low, so many places we can go, All in an effort just to show you our skill, and we will! When people sing we see their frowns replaced by happy smiles on ev’ry face, A joy like this is commonplace when we sing! It’s a thing!

We build our choral singing phrase by phrase, providing us with happy days, A finished product to amaze all who hear, year by year! You see our progress since we first began, to grow from boy into a man, It’s all a part of nature’s plan to mature, and for sure, Hey! We’re mature to be sure!

Hey! Now that you’ve heard us sing this simple song, perhaps you too could sing along! We all know that you can’t go wrong with a song; so be strong! With all our voices raised in choral blend, at last we round that final bend; And with this song we reach the end of our show, here we go!

Although it seems like we have just begun to bring a smile to ev’ryone! It’s all been fun and now we’re back to beat one! We’re done!

OLD KING COLE KEN BERG MIXED CHORISTER ENSEMBLE

What ho! What you all need to know!

Oh, old King Cole was a merry old soul and a merry old soul was he. He called for his pipe, he called for his bowl he called for his fiddlers three. Every fiddler had a fiddle and a very fine fiddle had he. There’s none as can compare with old King Cole and his fiddlers three.

Now Cole had a queen who often was seen in gowns made of gold and blue. Her face and her hair were lovely and fair and always her heart was true. She was slim and tall and always did enthrall the nobles and peasants and all. This royal pair so good and fair were never far from their fiddlers three.

Old King Cole! Don’t you know he will thrill your soul when he turns up his rock ‘n roll! Old King Cole! Don’t you know he is in control of his fiddles and pipe and bowl. Old King Cole! It’s time to get up and go ‘Cos you don’t want to miss the show of his fiddlers three!

Now the pipe the king played was finely inlaid with silver and gold to boot! So sweet was the sound that filled all the town when Cole played his royal flute. And the steady beat from the bowl did keep the rhythm matching the queen’s dancing feet! The jollity for all to see accompanied by the fiddlers three! "Always strive to be a better person for yourself and in the community." – Isaiah Alexander, graduating senior WE’LL SING A SONG FOR YOU KEN BERG

This anthem is dedicated in honor of our 2020-21 Board President, Tom Kendrick MIXED CHORISTER ENSEMBLE

We’ll sing a song for you! It’s what we love to do! We’ll sing it loud and true because you asked us to! We’ll sing a song for you.

We see the joy it brings when everybody sings. Better than we see the joy it brings when everybody sings!

And now we’ve finished the A Phrase of our song; so how have we done so far? We’d like to invite you all to sing along, but now the B Phrase is done and gone?

We’ll sing a song for you! It’s what we love to do! We’ll sing it loud and true because you asked us to! We’ll sing a song for you.

…we’ll even change the key!

We’ll sing it soft and low because it’s time to go! We only want to know that you enjoyed the show, but now we have to go!

"I love the environment of the BBC and what I have learned over the past years from my teachers and Mr. Berg. I will miss spending time with my friends singing the songs I love." – Trevor Brown, graduating senior

SWINGIN’ ON A STAR JAMES VAN HEUSEN/ARR. GREG GILPIN JUNIOR CHORISTERS

Would you like to swing on a star? But if you don’t care a feather of a fig, Carry moonbeams home in a jar? you may grow up to be a pig. And be better off that you are? Would you rather be a fish? Or would you rather be a mule? A fish won’t do anything but swim in a brook. A mule is an animal with long funny ears. He can’t write his name or read a book. He kicks up at ev’rything he hears. To fool the people is his only thought. His back is brawny, but his mind is weak. And though he’s slippery he still gets caught. He’s just plain stupid with a stubborn streak. But then if that sort of life is what you wish, And by the way, if you hate to go to school You may grow up to be a fish. you may grow up to be a mule. And all the monkeys aren’t in the zoo, Or would you rather be a pig? Ev’ry day you meet quite a few. A pig is an animal with dirt on his face. So you see it’s all up to you. His shoes are a terrible disgrace. You could be better than you are. He’s got no manners when he eats his food. You could be swinging on a star! He’s fat and lazy and extremely rude.

"My most memorable times in the choir were when we would study a life lesson. No matter what age, these lessons can change someone’s life. These life lessons will be something I will treasure forever." – Christian Brown, graduating senior
