Punch and Stripper Installation.

STEP 1—REMOVE THE PUNCH DRIVERS • Rotate punch retainer collar to the “OPEN” position. (Photo 3) • Lift the punch drivers out of the punch holder assembly. (Photo 4)

STEP 2—INSTALL THE ULTRA PUNCHES TO THE PUNCH DRIVERS • Screw the punch driver onto the punch until the punch driver stops. • Loosen the punch driver until the key on the punch and the key on the punch driver are aligned. (Photo 5) Photo 3 Photo 4

STEP 3—INSTALL THE PUNCHES AND STRIPPERS • Slide the stripper into the appropriate stripper pockets. (Photo 6) • Apply a generous amount of lubricating oil to the sides of the punches and punch drivers before installation. Use DTE25, DTE26,SAE-20W or similar. • Slide the punch into the corresponding punch pockets. (Photo 7) • NOTE: Punch key will only fit in 1 slot per station. The alternate slots are for fine-tune length adjustment only. • NOTE: Stripper may require manual rotation to fully engage punch tip with the opening in the stripper.

Photo 5 STEP 4—SET THE STRIPPER FACE TO PUNCH TIP LEAD • Observe the distance from the stripper face to the punch tip. This distance should be between 0.020”(0.50mm) and 0.040”(1.02mm). Proceed as follows if required. • Withdraw the punch driver until the key on the punch driver just disengages with the keyway in the punch holder. (See red circle in Photo 8) CAUTION: Do not pull out so far as to disengage the punch key from punch holder . To fix disengaged punch keys simply rotate the punch driver counter clockwise until keys reengage with keyways. • Rotate the punch driver counter clockwise to reduce the stripper lead or clockwise to increase the stripper lead. ° One revolution equals 0.048”(1.21mm), with 3 steps per revolution. Use the additional slots for fine tune length adjustment. (Photo 9) Photo 6 Photo 7 • Recheck the punch to stripper lead and adjust as required. • Repeat until all of the punches are adjusted.

STEP 5—CLOSE THE PUNCH RETAINER COLLAR • Rotate punch retainer collar clockwise to the “CLOSE” position as indicated on the flange of the punch holder. (Photo 10) • Apply a generous amount of lubricating oil through the Lubrication Access at the center shaft top. Use DTE25, DTE26,SAE-20W or similar. (See page 1 overleaf).

Use of the hardened shim (MATE02330) supplied with each standard Lower Assembly

• Prevents damage (indentation) to the die holder of the machine by the individual die positions • Strengthens the die carrier for customers punching heavier material by dissipating the stresses into the die holder more effectively ºº Without the shim, stress is focused in the small area where the dies are seated

*Please note that the shim will raise the die height by the amount of the thickness (0.020”(0.51mm)) of the shim HARDENED SHIM TO PROTECT MACHINE DIE HOLDERS Shim: MATE02330

Spring Replacement Procedure:

SPRINGS TO ORDER: Punch 8 station: 1 each SPR00048, 8 each SPR00038, and 8 each SPR00041 Retainer Collar SUGGESTED : • Bench with • T-handle hex wrench: 2.5mm • 6mm hex wrench • 8mm hex wrench • Hex bit for torque wrench: 2.5mm Photo 11 • Hex bit for torque wrench: 8mm • Torque wrench

If not already done, remove punches, punch drivers and strippers. Set aside.

TIP: Thoroughly clean all components after disassembly and oil all components before reassembly with DTE25, DTE26, SAE-20W or similar.

REMOVE THE PUNCH RETAINER COLLAR: 1. Use a 2.5mm T-handle wrench. Remove the cap screw from the radial slot on the outside diameter of the punch retainer collar. Set aside. (Photo 11) 2. While pulling upwards, rotate the punch retainer collar until it disengages from the punch holder.

LOOSEN DRAW : 1. Mount a 6mm hex wrench vertically in a vise, with approximately .60”(14.3mm) protruding from the top of the vise jaws. (Photo 12) (Option: Two flats have been machined onto the center shaft end that can be put into the vise instead of using 6mm hex wrench) 2. Turn the punch holder assembly upside down and lower it on to the 6mm hex wrench to engage hex in center shaft or put center flats directly into vise if using aluminum jaws. 3. Loosen the draw bolt using the 8mm hex wrench or torque wrench. (Photo 13) CAUTION: It will require a significant amount of force to loosen the draw bolt. Be careful to keep 6mm hex wrench vertically straight and DO NOT put any vertical side force on lower wrench as it may break center shaft. 4. Hold both the center shaft and the punch holder. (Photo 14) 5. Lift the assembly off the 6mm hex wrench. CAUTION: Do not allow the center shaft and punch holder to separate
