2 Keeping Texans Moving!

Texas voters and the Legislature have approved funding that has allowed many I-35 projects to begin sooner than initially anticipated. This empowers Texas to bring congestion relief not only to our metropolitan areas, but across the state. This expansion—from San Antonio to Hillsboro—has begun and is expected to continue for the next 15 years.

What are the high-level changes taking place as part of this effort?

ŸŸ Adding express lanes to provide a reliable route for drivers, buses, vanpools and emergency vehicles. ŸŸ Incorporating innovative designs, such as intersection bypass lanes, upgraded and innovative intersections, ramp modifications and integrated operations technology. ŸŸ Improving safety by increasing the distance that vehicles have to enter, exit and change lanes. ŸŸ Giving users the ability to make smart choices for how to travel along I-35, such as using express lanes or enhanced transit, bicycle and pedestrian accommodations, in addition to using traditional general purpose lanes. ŸŸ Providing users with up-to-date information using on-road technology to facilitate their decisions about where, when and how to travel. ŸŸ Reflecting community values by improving east-west connectivity, maximizing existing right of way without overbuilding, and allowing for technological advancement.
