THE IUCN RED LIST OF THREATENED SPECIES™

Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family

Animalia

Taxon Name: Acanthinula spinifera Mousson, 1872 Assessment Information

Red List Category & Criteria: Data Deficient ver 3.1

Year Published: 2013

Date Assessed: September 30, 2010

Justification: This species has only been collected from 3 localities on 2 different islands, its real distribution is uncertain and the threats it faces are unknown. Therefore the species has been assessed as Data Deficient (DD).

Previously Published Red List Assessments 1996 – Data Deficient (DD)

1994 – Rare (R)

Geographic Range

Range Description: This species is currently known to occur on Tenerife and La Palma islands. However, the scarcity of shells and paucity of sampling means that the range is uncertain and that the species might be present on more islands.

Country Occurrence: Native: Spain (Canary Is.)

The species is very rare, but also very small and therefore not so easy to detect. Current Population Trend: Unknown

Habitat and Ecology (see Appendix for additional information) This species is thought to occur in natural forests and their edges (Fayal-Brezal).

Systems: Terrestrial

Use and Trade This species is not used.

Threats (see Appendix for additional information) The main threats to this species are the clearing of natural forest and wildfires. Conservation Actions More research is needed on the population, distribution, ecology and threats to this species. Credits
