In 2008 the construction of a new sports complex gave a powerful im pulse to the sports development in the Univer sity. It is located on the territory of 4.5 hectares and includes universal sports hall with an area of 4 000 m2 (with a playground, gym, martial arts hall), football stadium with artificial turf for 1 460 seats and an indoor swimming pool “KAI-Olympus” with an area of 11 000 m2. In Cultural sport complex “KAI-Olympus” All-Russian, European and world competitions in swimming, diving and water polo are suc cessfully conducted, as well as basketball and football. Competitions in water polo, football, basketball and athletics trainings took place in “KAI-Olympus” during World Summer Uni versiade Kazan 2013. GLONASS system, unmanned flying vehicles, composite materials, the development of nano technology for the aerospace industry and in many other promising high-tech areas. MAI has created modern test and production facilities which allow the University to produce structural elements of aircraft including those for unmanned ones, and to assemble them. This equipment is used for “through point-to-point training” of students which means a full cycle of the aircraft development from the concep tion to the final product with carrying out the whole test cycle. Student space design bureau “Iskra” has been creating and launching into space small space crafts designed by students. All in all, eight small spacecrafts created by several groups of student design bureau of MAI have been launched. MAI is the only university in the world, having a light aircraft developer certificate and a li cense to develop aircraft. So, MAI has designed and developed to the stage of the final product over 20 different types of aircraft. Each year the University hosts a number of in ternational scientific conferences and events that reflect the development of the universi ty as an important educational organization of aerospace industry. Moscow Aviation Institute is located on a land plot of approximately 400 hectares. MAI campus includes 7 dormitories for 4 837 persons: over 3 500 undergraduate and gradu ate students from other cities (including about 640 foreign students) and students of the pre paratory department. The MAI campus has all the necessary con ditions for living, self-study and recreation of students, as well as for the organization of extra-curricular, cultural and sports activi ties.
